Leonard Watt, Fullbright ex
change student at Southern Ore
gon college, spoke at the last
meeting of Jackson Parent
Teacher association. Mr. Watt,
v,ho is from Melbourne, Aus
tralia, talked on education in
that country.
A panel discussion followed,
with Paul Gandt as moderator
ar.d Mrs. Arthur Cook, Mrs. Joe
Martin and Mrs. Jim Hobbs on
the panel.
The flag ceremony was pre
sented by Bluebirds of the
fourth grade, and children of
the third grade sang. Mrs. Glen
Schneider led the group. Room
prizes were won by Mrs. Archer
Watson and Mr. LittmarTs
grades.
Refreshments were served by
mothers of children in the
fourth grade.
New Garden Club
May Be Formed
In Applegate Area
Applegate Women of the
Applegate area have expressed
interest in forming a garden
club which would include up
per, little and lower Applegate
districts. Mrs. Marcel LePiniec
has volunteered to assist in the
organizational details and wom
en interested in such a club are
asked to contact her.
Anyone interested in the club
is asked to write a postcard to
Mrs. Marcel LePiniec. Route 1.

on which day of the week they
would prefer to meet.
Students Named
On Committees
Don Gordon, Medford student
attending Williamette university
is one of the committee members
helping to plan the 49th annual
Freshman Glee at the school.
This event, one of the most im
portant of the school year at
Willamette, will be held March
23.
Young Gordon is a son of
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gordon.
Roger Hunteman of Medford
has been elected song leader
of Baxter hall on the Willamette
campus. He is a son of Mr. and
Mrs. Albert Huntemann, 2207
Capital avenue.

Medford Winners
In Homemaking
Contest Announced
Two girls have been named
Betty Crocker Homemakers of
Tomorrow in Medford. Thev re
ceived the highest scores in their
rchools on a written examina
tion of homemaking knowledge
and attitudes taken by gradua
ting high school girls.
The local school winners are
Miss Joann Agnes Doe of Med
ford Senior High school and
Miss Barbara Joanne Lickess of
St. Mary's High school.

now will be entered in compe
tition with those of 146 other
school winners to name this
state's candidate for the title of
AU-American Homemaker of
Tomorrow and will also be con
sidered for the runnerup award
in the state. For their achieve
ment, they will each receive an
award pin designed by Trifari
of New York.
Each state winner will re
ceive a SI. 500 scholarship and
an educational trip with her
school advisor to Washington,
DC, colonial Williamsburg.
Va.. and New York City. A
$500 scholarship will be award
ed the runnerup girl in each
state. The school of the state
winner receives a set of the
Encyclopedia Britannica.
More than 300,000 young
women in 11.636 of the nation's
public, private and parochial
schools participated in the third
annual Search sponsored by
General Mills. The program is
designed to assist schools in ed
ucation for home and family
living and to emphasize through
a sound scholarship award pro
gram the personal qualities and
sense of values necessary to
successful homemaking. A to
tal of S106.000 in scholarships
will be awarded.
The national winner will be
named May 2 at the American
Table banquet in the Waldorf
Astoria Hotel, New York City.
The scholarship of the Ail-American
Homemaker of Tomor
row will be increased to $5,000.

Camp Fire Board
Holds Meeting;
Policy Outlined
The board of directors . of
Rogue council. Camp Fire Girls,
met Tuesday morning at the
home of the new council presi
dent. Mrs. Frank Christian. At
tending were Mrs. Jack Sukes
tforf, retiring president; Mrs.
Wesley Baker, secretary; Mrs.
Cieo Vanderburg, treasurer and
Mrs. Ruthe Gerety, executive
director.
Council policy for the coming
year was discussed and evaluat
ed. Council training for all com
mittees will be conducted in the
next two months and all com
mittees will have job descrip
tions issued to the chairman at
that time.
Mrs. Suksdorf was appointed
chiarman of the area training
program. The four district chair
man will work directly with
Mrs. Suksdorf.
A new plan of decentraliza
tion will continue to be expand
ed throughout the council, it is
announced. This will not only
increase the girl and adult mem
bership but at the same time
will decrease the work load for
those adults serving on the dis
trict committees, it was' said.
