iConcerts Sunday Afternoon
The Philharmonic Society of
Southern Oregon will present its
second symphony concert of the
season, Sunday, January 27 at
3 p.m. at Senior High school in
Medford. The program will be
repeated at 8 p.m. at Grants
Pass Junior High school.

At the meeting of the board
of directors of Philharmonic So
ciety of Southern Oregon held
Thursday several events were
announced that are scheduled
during the coming week.
Mrs. Ronald W. Bartlett, first
violinist for the Philharmonic
orchestra, and Mrs. Charles Free
man will be interviewed by Don
Williams, publicity manager of
radio station KMED, Monday,
January 21, at 6:30 p.m. on
KMED. They will discuss the
hour-long program of classical
music that will be broadcast on
that station from 6:30 until 7:30
p.m. Mondays.
Also this week Harvey Robert
son, president of the society,
Richard Werner, Philharmonic
orchestra conductor, and Mr.
and Mrs. Huot Fisher, Ashland,
orchestra members, will be inter
viewed on television station
KBES-TV Thursday, January 24,
at 6:50 p.m.
Thursday morning at 10 a.m.

To Hold Dinner
A committee of Jefferson Parent-Teacher
association mem
bers met Monday at the school
to coordinate final plans for the
group's annual family night pot
luck dinner. This event is the
major fund raising project for
the Jefferson PTA, and is sched
uled for Thursday, January 24,
from 5:30 to 7 p.m. In charge of
the planning committee are Mrs.
Robert Newland and Mrs. El
wood B. Hedberg.
Other committees working on
the details of the dinner are
headed by Mrs. Harvey Bell and
Mrs. R. P. Knights, kitchen
crew; Mrs. Homer Sullivan,
clean up; Mrs. Bill Barnes and
Mrs. Mike Wagar, tickets; Mrs.
Warren Wolf, decorations; and
Mrs. A. L. Nash, hospitality.
Theme of the dinner will be
Jtfferson Jets, taken from the
name of the school athletic
teams. Tickets will be sold at
the main entrances to the school
the evening of the dinner. Serv
ing will be continuous from 5:30
to 7 p.m. and it is expected that
nearly 600 people will be serv
ed during the evening.

Miss Mary Becken, practical
nurse from Bartlett, Alaska,
will speak at a meeting of Med
ford chapter, Oregon Licensed
Practical Nurses' association, to
be held Monday, January 21, at
1:30 p.m. in the social room of
Sacred Heart hospital.
Miss Becken, who is em
ployed at Seward sanitarium in
Bartlett, is in Oregon to visit
relatives and friends.
The visitor will report on the
nursing situation in'Alaska, and
speak of other pertinent events.
A potluck supper will follow
the program.

president, states that the meet
ing is unusually important.

with Massenet's overture
"Phedre", followed by Mozart's
''Symphony No. 40 in G minor."
Two elegiac pieces for string
orchestra by Grieg and "Three
Dances to Henry VIII" by Ed
ward German will follow the
intermission. The concert will
close with the stirring "March
Slav" by Tschaikowsky.
The Philharmonic guild will
serve coffee during intermission.

sen's dairy, the latter two spon
soring the programs, and at the
box office prior to concert time.
No membership is required to

will be glad to have song, dance,

soft beige wool. After a wedding
trip through the Southwest the
bride will return to her work
with the sorority. The bride
groom attended Oregon State
college and majored in engineer
ing and is now stationed with
the United States Army at Ft
