Distribution Plan
Is Approved by
City PTA Council
Medford Council of Parents
and Teachers at its January
meoting held last week at the
YMCA building, passed a reso
lution approving the principles
of the school distribution plan
a recommended by a commit
tee from the state board of ed
ucation studying the problem.
Leonard Mayfield. school
superintendent, presented the
proposed plan which would
change the present school law
by establishing a minimum basic
program at an equalized cost to
the tax payers of the state.
Mrs. Leigh Gustison, region
al vice-president of the Oregon
Congress of Parents and Teach
ers. and Mrs. John Benson, state
parliamentarian, outlined the
recommended changes in the
Oregon congress by-laws by
which the city councils would
become coordinating committees
within the framework of the
county councils. It is believed
that such coordinating commit
tees could give valuable service
to both the PTA units and
school administrators without
being burdensome as to finances
and numbers of meetings, as
well as avoiding duplication of
county council programming,
work shops and leadership
training.
It was announced that the
state convention for the Oregon
congress will be April 9 through
1 1 at Pendleton.
Plans are being made to char
ter a bus from Jackson county
for those who will attend from
here.
