The engagement of Miss Carol
Ann Lewis to J. Bradley Morris
wag announced at two recent
parties. The bride-elect is a
daughter of Mn. Wayne V.
Stine, Old Military road, and
Clayton W. Lewis, 143 North
street, Medford. Mr. Morris is a
son of Mr. and Mrs. Carlos W.
Morris, 128 Mistletoe . street,
Medford.
First announcement of the en
gagement was made during the
holidays t - party held in the
home of the bride-elect's grand
mother, Mrs. E. C. Corn, 714
South Oakdale avenue. January
8 a second announcement party
was held at the Sigma Kappa
house at the University, of Ore
gon, Eugene. Miss Lewis being
affiliated with the chapter.
Miss Lewis is a freshman at
the University of Oregon, and
Mr. Morris is a "sophomore at
the same school. He is enrolled
in the Reserve Officers' Train
ing corps. Both are graduates of
Medford High school.
' The wedding has been set for
next September.

ter, Sandra, to Henry Pech, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pech of
Lake Creek.
Miss Straus is a senior at
Eagle -Point High school.. Mr.
Pech was graduated from Eagle
Point High school in 1954 and
was recently discharged from
the United States Navy after
serving two years aboard the
USS Chester T. O'Brien.

Lewis Bright, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Philip S. Bright, 1787 Min
ear road, and a junior class stu
dent at Willamette university,
will compete with members of
nine other colleges addressing
the Toastmistressps' club Tues
day at Eugene. The announce
ment was made through the uni
versity news release program.
Young Bright, a speech major
in pre-law studies, is one of two
students from the university to
take part in the state after-dinner
speaking contest which is
sponsored by the inter-collegiate
forensic association of Oregon.
He is a Medford high school
graduate and has received num
erous awards in speaking. While
in high school he won the state
high school oratory contest and
reached the regional contests.
The student recently participat
ed in the Stockton, Calif., de
bate tournament for students
from universities and colleges
throughout Washington, Calif
ornia and Oregon. He was a fi
nalist in extemporaneous speak
ing in that contest and also
reached the semi-finals there in
debate.
Last fall he took part in a
similar tournament at Pullman,
Wash.

Officers of the Army, Navy,
and Air Force will cooperate
with the local Business and Pro
fessional Women's club in pre
senting a National Security pro
gram Thursday. January 17, at
the Roxy Ann grange where the
club will meet for dinner at 6:30
p.m.
Colonel Frank M. Kehoe, unit
advisor of the United States
Army Reserves for the Grants
Pass, Medford, and Klamath
Falls area. Lieutenant Comman
der Richard Knights, head of the
United States .Naval Reserves,
and Captain Donald P. Heming
way, Air Force Reserve liason
officer, will speak to the group.
Each will explain the functions
of the security force he com
mands and its place in the over
all national security plan.
Other honor guests of the
clubs will be Miss Noreen
Kelly, the new municipal judge.
and her mother, Mrs. Edward
Kelly.
Mrs. Inez Fnel, club chairman
for national security, will be as
sisted by members of her com
mittee. Mrs. Edith Baker, Mrs.
Elsa Walker, Mrs. Eva Segessen
man, and Miss Elizabeth Rice.
International relations com
mittee members are in charge of
dinner arrangements. Entertain
ment during the dinner hour
will be by the Kaliko Kids, a
grade school group sponsored
by Mrs. Vi Ayers.
Mrs. Thclma Mclntyre, public
affairs chairman, who represent
ed the club at the Thursday
meeting of Great Decisions, will
give a report to the group.
To Hold Installation
Medford chapter. Blue Star
Mothers of America, will elect
and install 1957 officers at their
meeting Thursday, January 17,
at 1:30 p.m. The session will be
held at the Carpenters' Union
hall, 23i West Main street.

Delta Omega Group
To Collect Items
For Hungarians
Delta Omega, senior Tri-Hi-Y
group of the YMCAwill spon
sor a collection point for dona
tions of clothing, money and
other items for Hungarian re
lief on the first floor of the "Y"
building. Collections will be re
ceived Monday, January 14,
through Saturday, January 19.
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The group will pack and ship
the items through the American
Friends Service committee in
Portland.
Persons having donations are
asked to take them to the "Y"
building during the days and
hours announced. However, if
they cannot take them to the col
lection point they may call Miss
Suzanne Johansen, telephone
3-4373, or Miss Jane Barker,
telephone 2-4663 for pick up
service.
The Delta Omega group pre
viously donated money to the
relief fund through the Friends
service committee. The present
cash goal set by the AFSC is
S250.000, according to press re
leases concerning their work.
They have already shipped 275
tons of clothing and food from
this country and Britain it point
ed out. The group has rented
a warehouse in Vienna, Austria,
where volunteers prepare the
items for distribution.
Sunday, January 6, marked
the beginning of winter square
dancing sessions sponsored by
the Ladies Mounted Troop at the
clubhouse on Sage lane.
About 40 persons attended in
cluding Troop, Posse, Junior
Posse members, members of the
Medford Trail Riders and guests.
Paul Larson called for the danc
ing and gave instruction to be
ginners. A pot-luck dinner was served
at 6:30 p.m. and the dancing
continued until about 10:30 p.m.
These sessions will continue to
be held on Sunday evenings
throughout the winter.

December 12 at the Clubhouse
for a dinner prepared and serv
ed by. Past Captains of the or
ganization officers were elect
ed for 1957.

An old - fashioned Christmas
party was held at the Club
house December 15. Those at
tending included Troop and
Sheriff s Posse members. Junior
Posse members and guests. A
pot-luck dinner was served and
entertainment included musical
numbers by members of the
Troop and Junior Posse, sauare
dancing and cards. Junior Posse
members exchanged gifts while
Troop and Posse members and
guests brought gifts which were
sent to Fairview home at Salem.
Chapter CG, PEO, sisterhood,
will meet at 1 p.m., Wednesday,
January 16, at the home of Mrs.
G. T. Haupert, 222 Valley View
drive. Mrs. E. L. Bartholomew

Installs Officers
Mrs. Gene Chamberlain was
installed president of the So
journer club Thursday when the
group met at Pythian hall. Mrs.
Meredith Parsons was installing
officer. She presented the new
officer and Mrs. John Mans
field corsages. Mrs. Mansfield
represented the retiring vice
president, Mrs. Gerald von
Ting, who was absent because
of illness in her, family.
Other officers installed were
Mrs. Floyd Robertson, first vice
president; Mrs. Dolorous Lewis,
second vice-president; Mrs. Ted
Mayfield, secretary; and Mrs.
H. W. Sturgeon, treasurer.
Appointed officers were Mrs
Jack Holmes, hospitality; Mrs.
A. B. Davis, publicity, and Mrs.
Mabel Wright, remembrance.
Mrs. von Ting will become chair
man of the board, and Mrs. Par
sons, member-at-large.
Mrs. Jim Winslow was recog
nized for her work in the club
and also was given a corsage.
Hostesses were Mrs. L. E.
Juniper, Mrs. W. H. Cramer
and Mrs. A. C. Stockstill.
After the business meeting,
cards were played and bridge
prizes were won by Mrs. Juniper
and Mrs. A. J. Castillo. Canasta
prizes went to Mrs. L. B. And
rews and Mrs. Ruby Wright,
while Mrs. F. W. Robertson and
Mrs. A. G.'Motschenbacher re
ceived pinochle prizes.
Next club meeting will be
January 24 at Pythian hall at
12:30 p.m. All women who have
lived in Medford or vicinity for
less than two years are invited
to attend.
Adarel Chapter
Adarel Past Matrons club will
hold its initial meeting of the
year on Monday afternoon, Jan
uary 14, at 25 Quince street,
Medford. The meeting will be
preceded by a 12:30 dessert lun
cheon, the committee for which
is comprised of the new officers,
Mrs. Fred L. Ryde, president;
Mrs. Joe H. Gregory, vice-president;
