The family of John Snider, Medford't new mayor, enjoys games and hobbies together. John Jr., 13,
(at right) and Douglas, 12, have learned to ploy chess with their father. Mayor Snider and the boys
also like to1 tinker with model airplanes and gasoline engines. Mrs. Snider and Mary Ann, 7, have
been making mosaic tiles in recent weeks, and each holds one of the completed pieces. The Snider
home is at 2327 East Main street, and all three children attend St. Mary's school.

Mrs. Roy J. Schumacher is the wife of Jackson county's new assessor. The Schumachers, who live at
126 Portland avenue, have been in business in Medford for 32 years, first in merchandising and
later in real estate. Formerly a professional musician, Mrs. Schumacher now plays the piano purely
. for pleasure. The Schumachers have a daughter, Mrs. R. L. Grigsby, ond three grandchildren who
live in Portland.

The wife of the new county commissioner, Mrs. Ralph James, is an artist. Mrs. James began painting
when but nine years old, and years ago while still living in New York City, some times sold her
" work. She paints in oils, and particularly enjoys doing mountain and marine scenes. Mr. and Mrs.
James, who come to Medford 17 years ago to live in Sams Valley, have three daughters living in
southern California. The couple attends the neighborhood Gospel church in their community.

Mrs. Thomas Reeder, wife of the new district attorney of
Jackson county, is pictured here in their apartment at 135
North Ivy street. Mrs. Reeder, a registered nurse, is on the
staff of one of the city's clinics and is a member of Medford
Jaycettes. She trained at St. Anthony's Nursing school in
Oklahoma, and the two met when both were attending the
University of Oklahoma.

January has brought a number of changes in th
roster of officials serving the city, county and in state
offices. Medford ha"s a new mayor and four new coun
cilman, the county has a new assessor, a new, district
attorney and a new county commissioner. When the
legislature convenes in Salem Monday, one new rep
resentative from Jackson county will take his place
among those from other counties of Oregon.
Today The Mail Tribune is pleased to introduce the
wives and families of these new city', county and state
officials . who will be serving the citizens of Medford
and JacVson county in the. months to come. .

Robert B. Duncan, newly elected representative from Jackson county to the Oregon legislature, will
be accompanied to Salem this month by Mrs. Duncan and the couple's five children. The sons and
daughters are Nancy, 12; Angus, 10; David, 5 (standing in front of Angus); Jamie, i, and Laurie
Ann, 2. Mrs. Duncan plans on serving as her husband's secretary during the session. The represen
tative's mother, Mrs. Eugene Duncan, will come from Bloomington, III., to help care for the children
while her son and daughter-in-law carry on the legislator's duties at the capitol. Mr. Duncan leaves
this week end and his family will join him later. The family home is at 1500 Terrace drive. .
