here in Hollywood I regret some

Mickey wasn't born with all
those muscles, but he still was
a top athlete in his native Buda

ing champion at 16. His father
was a theater owner so Mickey
went to dramatic school and
studied ballet. He was more in
terested in a career in show
business than athletics and left
home at the age of 19.
He arrived in New York with
$7 in his pocket. After working
in a Brooklyn fruit market for
$2 a day, he joined a cousin in
Indianapolis and they formed a
dance team.
He later married another
dancer and their team, the Har-
gitays, was a nightclub success.
He also ran a successful carpen
ter business in Indianapolis.
One day a pal suggested he
build his muscles at a gym.
Mickey soon collected 20 tro
phies in muscle contests and, in
1955, the Mr. Universe contest
in London. Then came his tour
with the Mae West muscle-man
show, her subsequent headlined
firing of him in a love spat and
his meeting with Jayne Mans
field in New York.
"Jayne and I get along fine,"
he said. "She often says if I
weighed only 100 pounds in
stead of 221 she'd still feel the
same way about me."

had changed her mind about
pressing charges of "watching
and besetting" which she had
filed against James McDonald,
29. last December. She since has
married McDonald.

be guest speaker at the annual
awards banquet of the Medford
Safety council at 6:30 p.m. Fri
day, Jan. 18 in the Pioneer room
of the Jackson hotel.
Outgoing President Bud Pal
mer said the program also will
include presentation of safety
awards for 1956 and installation
of 1957 officers of the council.
Invited guests will be Mayor
John Snider, Barbara Kahn,
staff consultant of the state
board of health, past recipients
of safety awards, and represent
atives of safety groups in other
southern Oregon communities.
Russ Jamison, director of pub
lic information for the council,
will be master of ceremonies.
Dinner music will be provided
by Arthur Manter, manager of
the organ and piano department
of Puruckers Piano House, Med
ford. Those desiring tickets have
been requested to purchase them
before Jan. 17 in order that ar
rangements can be made. Tick
ets can be purchased from of
ficers or members of the coun
cil. Palmer said only 250 tickets
will be sold on first-come-first
serve basis.

O'Hara Backs Tighter
Salem (U.R) The recom
mendation calling for tightening
up of the current laws of filing
of candidate's expense state
ments has won the support of
David O'Hara, state elections
registrar.
This recommendation will be
among those submitted to the
Legislature when it convenes
on Monday. It calls for the filing
of expense accounts before and
after the general and primary
elections. At present expense ac
counts are filed 15 days after the
elections.

a wholesale transfer of police

Collapsible Navy
Helicopter Unveiled
Palo Alto, Calif. (U.R) The
Navy has unveiled a 250-pound
collapsible, one-man helicopter
which it described as the latest
thing in front liaison craft.
The device, called the "Roto-
cycle," was developed by the
Hiller Helicopter Corp. for tac
tical use by the Marine Corps. A
Hiller spokesman said it comes
as close to the idea of a "strap-
on-back helicopter as has yet
been developed.
The craft is powered by a 4
cylinder opposed, air-cooled en
gine mounted on the pilot's back.
A single rotor 18 feet in diam
eter provides the lift and a small
tail rotor compensates for the
torque.
Performance data was not dis
closed. The Navy said the Marine
Corps would use the Rotocycle
for observation, liaison and
small unit tactical maneuvers.
Klamath Indian Tracts
Being Offered for Sale
Portland (U.R) Fourteen
tracts of allotted Indian lands
on the Klamath reservation are
being offered for sale at the re
quest of the Indian owners, it
was announced today.
The tracts range in size from
60 to 160 acres and are all tim
bered with Ponderosa and lodge
pole pine. Some contain agri
cultural lands.

Milk Production
Shift To Eastern

sion dairyman, told the 63rd an
nual meeting of the Oregon
Dairymen's Association yester
day that it may not be many
years before milk production
shifts to the eastern section of
the state.
Anderson said that Malheur
county, with 20,000 head of dairy
cattle, now ranks as the state's
No. 1 dairy county. Tillamook,
long one of the leaders, has 18,
000 head of milking stock.
Anderson said that milk pro
ducers may find it to their ad
vantage to transport milk across
the mountains in bulk transports
rather than to haul eastern Ore
gon hay to the western half of
the state. ,
Herds at Lowest Level
Oregon dairy herds are now
at their lowest level since 1932,
Oscar Hagg; Oregon State Col
lege dairy marketing specialist,
told the convention.
He warned that the consumer
milk supply could be endanger
ed unless conditions in the state
improve and said producers have'
a perfect right to bargain for
a fair price for their product.
Dr. A. O. Shaw, head of the
Washington State College dairy
department, told, the group that
two big problems . . . the need
to increase 'income by increased
production per cow and a more
even milk flow throughout the
year . . . are the majorbnes fac
ing Northwest dairymen.

Busy Bees Sewing Club
We began our meeting with
refreshments served by Linda
Walker and Sharon Wright. We
worked on our pincushions and
some of us finished them.
Our next project is a head
scarf. Mrs. Jones showed us how
to pull threads to make the
scarf. square and how to whip
the corners to keep them from
raveling too much. Jan. 30 will
be achievement night, but only
the second and third year girls
will receive pins. We are goin to
read a poem on correct sewing
for our part of the program.
