Need Noted for New
Air Traffic Control
Washington (U.R) House
investigators reported Friday
that the collision of two airliners
over the Grand Canyon last June
shows the need for a vast new
air traffic control system
throughout the nation.
A House Commerce Subcom
mittee headed by Rep. Owen
Harris (D-Ark.) said the tragedy
revealed that "not only are new
equipments needed, but new con
cepts of air traffic control must
be adopted."
The two airliners collided over
the canyon June 30 with the
loss of 128 lives.
The advent of the jet age,
compounding the problems of air
safety, the subcommittee said,
points up the "urgent need for
drastic changes in procedures."
The subcommittee did not
state' who was at fault in the
Grand Canyon crash.
