Broken Insylators
Cause Power Outage
Accumulation of fog and ce
ment dust broke insulators on a
66.000-volt transmission line in
tte west edge of Gold Hill, caus
ing a power outage for about 2' ,2
hours this morning in Gold Hill
nd oirrounding rural areas, ac
cording to Bjll Tlagker, district
superintendent for California
Oregon Powe company.
Tucker saidP the "faiJt" oc
curred about 6:37 m and the
impact caused mercury vapor
f?Khts in downtown Medford to
go off for about 10o minutes. It
also c&usetl lights in Medford to
blink periodically, but Gold Hill
area customers were the only
ones totally without ppwftr, he
said. Power was restored to
fhi'm about 9:03 a.m. Tucker
said crews had considerable dif
ficultyoin locating tle source, of
the outage. Fog hampered their f
kork atjd it was necessary to
climb evft-y pole and check
equipment for aftoijt one mile
befjire they discovered the brok
en insiifators.
