In Sunday's big game, the De

Game Raied Tossup
The Bears are so tough to

ica's desolate outlook in the
Davia Cup Challenge Round
asainst Australia brightened a
trifle today in the aftermath of
a "fountain of youth" perform
ance by the aging ace from
Philadelphia, 33-year-old Vic
Seixas.
Seixas, in both doubles and
singles competition against India
in the Interzone final, was at
his brilliant best. Aligned with
doubles partner, Sammy Giam-
malvia of Houston, Tex., in Sat
urday's clinching match, Seixas
was both a steadying influence
and a "take-chance" guy. The
Americans won 6-2. 3-6, 6-4, 6-4
from Ramanathan Krishnan and
Naresh Kumar in a match con
siderably more one-sided than
the score indicated.
That made Sunday's two final
singles matches strictly exhibi
tions and Captain Billy Talbert
named his second-string singles
men, Giammalva and Mike
Green of Miami Beach, Fla., to
wind it up. Green opposed
Krishman inv the first match

Syracuse Fears Texas Sun;
Polishing Offense for Bowl
Editors Note: This is the

ball games.
By JACK CHANDELR
United Press Sports Writer
Syracuse, N.Y. W.R) Coach
Ben Schwartzwalder, who takes
his Syracuse team into the South
west today for Cotton Bowl
workouts, figures he may need
ice packs to keep a cool head
against Texas Christian.
Fearful that his boys will wilt
under the Texas sun", Schwartz
walder hopes the weather on
New Year's Dsy "will be as cold
as it can get. If it's over 60 de
grees, we'll be cooked."
Plagued by bad weather here,
Aarcn Takes
Hitting Title
New York, (U.R) Hank
Aaron, the Milwaukee Braves'
22-year old hitting stylist, was as
good as his word in winning his
first National League batting
title this year.
Aaron, who declared himself
"in the race" when he was hit
ting .209 in early May, finished
the campaign with a .328-mark
that made.him the second young
est player ever to win the Na
tional League championship.
Pete Reiser was a month and 14
days younger than Aaron when
he won the title as a member of
the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1941.
Official figures compiled by
the Elias Baseball bureau re
vealed Saturday that Aaron won
the crown by nine points over
Bill Virdon, who started the sea
son with the St. Louis Cardinals
and finished it with the Pitts
burgh Pirates. Roberto Clemente
of the Pirates was third at .311
and Stan Musial, six-time former
champ of the Cardinals, next at
.310.
Aaron also led the league with
200 hits and 45 doubles. He was
the only major leaguer to reach
the 200-hit mark this year.
