Cannas and dahlias are among
the flowers that grow from bulbs
instead of seeds. They are ex
tremely sensitiye to cold weather
and have to be dug up in the
fall and replanted in the spring
to keep them from freezing and
dying.
Bokelmann didn't dig up his
bulbs last fall and didn't expect
any faunas or dahlias this year,
but the heat from his outside
chimney was enough to keep the
flowers warm. So the cannas
came up five feet high and the
dahlias four feet.
