Oregon Caves Falls
In Visitor Record
Portland Uff -r Tourists
flocked to national parks and
monuments in the Northwest in
record numbers during the first
nine months of this year with
only th Oregon Caves national
monument showing a decline in
tha number of visitors during a
comparative period of a year
Altogether, the seven national
park areas in Oregon, Washing
ton and Idaho showed a seven
per cent increase in the number
of persons visiting them this
year ever the -same nine-month
period year ago.
Crater Lake national park re
corded 347,986 visitors through
Sept. 30 of this year compared
to 332.293 during a like period
ei i9ss.
The number of visitors to the
Oregon Caves declined to 59,
047 during the first nine months
of the yer from the 66,765 re
corded triers a year ago.
"Hie total number of persons
registered as visiting the seven
national park areas in the three
states reached 2.367,363 com
pared to the 1955 figure of 2,
21X1.033. .
Russian Delegation
Seeking To Bolster
Janos Kadar Regime
Budapest. Hungary (UP; A
delegation of prominent Soviet
leaders sought today to bolster
the regime of Janos Kadar and
end the revolt of the Hungarian
people.
The delegation was reported
to be . led by Communist party
chief Tiikita S. Khrushchev and
includes two other members of
the ruling presidium, Anastas
Mikoyan and M. A. Suslov.
Workers Continue Strike
The delegation arrived Mon
day even while Hungarian free
dom fighters continued their
bitter resistance and workers
throughout the nation refused
to end a general strike.
The delegation was believed
to be striving desperately to
shore up the Kadar regime
which Russia imposed on Hun
gary after overthrowing the

DAV Talent Show
Robert Mars of Mrs. Mars'
Dancing studio, Rogue River,
won top prize In the sixth an
nual Disabled American Veter
ans talent show here Friday.
The act was a pantomine imita
tion of Elvis Presley.
Other winners in the show
were Sharon Roberts, of Caesare
Mussioli's school of accordion,
a solo; Louis Thurston, from
Mrs. Thurston's Dancing school,
tap. dance; Sandra Charters, a
student of Miss, Melody Pierce,
with Monte Nobel, vocal: and
Tamara Mars. 9. of Mrs. Mars'
danching school, junior age
group special.
A special attraction were the
Calico Kids from Colleen Hope's
school with a square dance.
A total of 36 entries partici
pated in the show at Medford
High school. Prizes were award
ed for winners in vocal, instru
mental, dance, and novelty acts.
Pat Graham, general chair
man of the show, said the show
is to the DAV as junior league
baseball is to the American
Legion and the annual marble
championship tournament is to
the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Judges for the show were
Joseph Vandervelden, Forest
Grove, state department com
mander, and Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas F. VanLanningham,
West Lynn. She is state depart
ment auxiliary commander, and
he is state adjutant.

Refuge in Embassy
Nagy and other members of
his government took refuge in
the Yugoslav embassy after the
Kadar government was pro
claimed. Leaflets were distributed in
Budapest Monday calling for the
"reinstatement of the Nagy gov
ernment." Signed by " The Hun
garian youth which goes on
fighting," the leaflets also de
manded the withdrawal of "alien
forces."
The circulars urged workers
not to work "under the com
mand of the occupiers and the
illegal usurping government."
"We shall ration our supplies
and help each other, but we
shall continue to strike . . . we
shall not retreat."
Diana Lynn To Wed

Hollywood (U.R) Film star
Diana Lynn and radio execu
tive Mortimer Hall have an
nounced plans to Marry Dec.
7 at the Beverly Hills home of
his sister.
Miss Lynn disclosed Monday
that she will marry, Hall, son
of Dorothy Schiff, publisher of
the New York Post, in the home
of Mrs. Fred Leopold. Hall is
president and general manager
of local Radio Station KLAC.
It will be the second marriage
for both.
Japanese Freighter Said
Prevented From Sailing

The captain of the Japanese
freighter Akibasa Maru com
plained today that Egyptian au
thorities prevented the vessel
from sailing from Alexandria to
escape Anglo-French bombard
ment. The captain said he was
warned a bombing attack was
imminent and wished to put to
sea, but Egyptians ordered the
ship to remain in the harbor
The Akibasa Maru escaped dam
age and later was permitted to
leave for Japan.

TROUBLE IN PARIS A French student, his face covered
with blood, is aided by two other demonstrators after a
crowd of 800 anti-Communists clashed with police in front
of the Communist Party headquarters in Paris. Breaking
through police lines, some 3000 demonstrators set fire to
the Party headquarters and damaged the building hous
ing the Communist newspaper "L'Humanite." Forty per
sons were hospitalized as a result of the riots.

Citation Issued After
Minor Accident Monday
Jacob Troutman, 76, of 418
Ross lane, Medford, was cited
for failure to yield the right of
way Monday after the car he
was operating was involved in
an accident on Highway 238
just beyond the Medford city
limits.
According to state police,
Troutman, who was easlbound
on the highway, attempted to
turn into a side street and
crossed in front of a vehicle
operated by Frank Hobart Gas
ter. 58. of 307 Jeanette St., Mad
ford. Gaster s car struck Trout
man's vehicle on the right front
fender. No injuries were reported.
Plans for Eagles'
Events Forthcoming
Final plans for family night
Friday at 8 p.m. and the Sadie
Hawkins Day dance, Saturday
at 9 p.m. will be announced at
a meeting of the Eagles in the
Eagle hall, 219 Wes Main St.,
Medford, at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Prizes will be awarded at
both family night and the Sadie
Hawkins Day dance.
About 200 attended the spe
cial meeting Monday when Law
