Scout Activities
For This Month
Girl Scout leaders and assist
ants of Lincoln-Jackson neigh
borhood met Thursday at the
home of the neighborhood chair
man Mrs. B. E. Culy, to discuss
plans for scouting during No
vember. It is planned to hold
a neighborhood meeting the sec
ond Monday of each month for
all leaders, assistants, and troop
committee members.
Miss Mary Aldrich, executive
director, described the purpose
of the meetings, which is to pro
vide help and information for
the volunteer leaders of scout
ing. Miss Aldrich instructed the
leaders in the making out of
registration forms, and the oth
er records that must be kept.
She emphasized that troops
should re-register at least two
weeks before their official troop
birthday to prevent a lapse in
the continuous membership of
the troop members.
Mrs. Jerry Gastineau, troop
organization chairman for Med
ford, reminded the leaders that
girls must bring signed permis
sion slips before they could be
come part of the troop this
covers activities regularly car
ried on at the troop meeting
place or within the community
in V,hich the troop meets. For
hikes or trips outside the city
the girls must bring a special
trip permit signed by the par
ents before they can be allowed
to go. Mrs. Gastineau also re
minded the leaders that a troop
must have a troop committee of
from three to five members be
fore the troop can be registered.
The leaders were also inform
ed that the Rogue Valley Area
council carries liability insur
ance on all registered adults to
protect them from lawsuits re
sulting from accidents while
transporting, or hiking with the
troop. It was also suggested that
when transporting the girls it
was advisable to have two
adults in each car, one to drive
and one to supervise the girls.
The work of program aides
was described and advice on
how to obtain this help was
given. Program aides are senior
scouts who come to the troop
and teach the girls songs, games
or some particular craft, there
by aiding the leader in directing
the troop. Those interested in
securing aides should contact
their neighborhood chairman or
the Scout office.
Leaders and assistants present

William Burnette and Mrs. Eric
