Thousands of demonstrators at
tacked the British and French
embassies here today and set fire
to the British Information Of
fice. Mobs protesting French and
British "aggression" in Egypt
broke into the information of
fice next door to the British Em
bassy, tossed hundreds of books
and pamphlets into the streets,
smashed the furniture and set
fire to the building.
Three truckloads of police
roared to the scene and drove
the mob of some 3.000 demon
strators out of the building and
embassy grounds at bayonet
point. r
Earlier, jeering mobs smashed
windows in the British and
French embassies, ripped down
British and French flags and

white standard. Police fired
rifles into the air to drive them
back.
Both embassies reported no
one was injured in the demon
strations. But unconfirmed re
ports said one man was injured
by a policeman's club at the
British office and two soldiers
were injured while guarding the
French embassy.
