of backs Saturday to roar to a
28-6 upset victory over favored
but futile California and snap a
Jour-game losing streak before
a crowd of 32,000.
The Bears couldn't do any
tlling right in the regionally
televised contest except for one
85yard touchdown march in the
third perjod after the game was
lost. It was Cal's fifth defeat
in seven games and the Bears

Oregon State then drove 76

it got the ball in the second,

four yards to put Oregon State
into a 21-7 lead.
Durden's 24-yard - touchdown
run in the final period sewed up
the game for Oregon State.
Washington's two other touch

Phoenix. Phoenix high, in
its best. performance of the fall,
turned back a crippled Glendale
football club 38 to 13 here Fri
day night to leave the Douglas
county club into the District 6

The home club got a TD in
the opening quarter and held a
26 to 6 halftime spread. Sharp
downfield. blocking and a top-
notch passing game helped the
Phoenix club to the triumph. Six
of its seven passes thrown' were
hauled in by receivers,' four for
touchdowns.
Glendale depended much on
a passing attack ' and was hurt
by three interceptions.
Don Wallace of Phoenix ran
the opening kick-off back to the
Phoenix 35 yard line. Then Gary
Simmonds ran 37 and 28 yards
