Boy Accidentally
Shot by Brother
Salem U.PJ A seven-year-old
Salem boy was accidentally
shot to death by his 10-year-old
brother Saturday as the boys
played with an old .22 caliber
rifle in an attic.
Victim of the shooting was
Dickie Gallickson. State police
said the boy was critically
wounded when the weapon went
off in the hands of his brother,
John.
The lad was rushed by city
police first aid car to Salem Gen
eral Hospital where he died
about an hour later. The acci
dent took place shortly after 8
a.m.
The attic where the boys were
playing was located over a ga
rage at the Gallickson home.

pectus of a
book by a man
who is sure
that aluminum
pots are very

If, before writing, he had phon
ed to his physician or his drug
gist he would have learned that
tcday the commoij drug used
for the treatment of ulcer is a
preparation of aluminum. Every
year each patient with ulcer
swallows several pounds of the
powdered material. As anyone
can easily see, the amount of
aluminum one can get off a pot
during cooking might not be
visible if placed on the head
of a pin. Obviously, that amount
cr a thousands times that amount
cannot possibly do any harm.
Health officials of the United
States Government have pointed
out again and again that there
is nothing to this silly idea, but
still it lives on lustily, and one
hears of it wherever one goes.
New Drugs Being Tested
There is a type of fighting
Siamese small fish that are con
stantly going after each other.
When a small amount of- one of
the new tranquilizing drugs is
dropped into their tank, they
calm down and behave them
selves. This reaction provides a
simple, cheap and quick method
of picking out a tranquilizer
from a group of drugs that have
just been synthetized.
I read now that guppies can
be used in testing drugs. As Drs.
Doris L. Keller and Wayne M.
Umbreit recently reported, the
fish can be placed first in water
which contains a trace of lysergic
acid diethylamide, a substance
which can cause volunteers who
take it to be psychotic for a
few hours. This causes the fish
to keep swimming against the
wall of the container in a pe
culiar "vibrating" way. This
type of behavior can be stopped
by adding a tranquilizing drug
to the water. Later, when given
more of the lysergic acid, the
f'sh swim backward.

Washington (U.R) Pilots of
light personal aircraft will no
longer have to scurry for cover
at the slightest hint of bad
weather.
Planes, official publication of
the Aircraft Industries Associa
tion, says that science and en
gineering have produced a min
iature early warning weather
radar system which will enable
America's personal plane fliers
to avoid bad weather in flight
as early as do the nation's giant
commercial air lines.
Weighing only 50 pounds in
order to meet the "flyweight"
requirements of the more than
59,000 business and private air
craft owners and operators, the
miniature weather radar gives
these small plane pilots the
ability to "see" and . avoid
storms and turbulent areas up
to 50 miles ahead.
