Eisenhower To Reply
To Stevenson Attack
On Foreign Policy
Washington (U.R) President
Eisenhower's political goals for
today were the wooing of New
York's crucial vote and answer
ing Adlai E. Stevenson's attacks
on his foreign policy.
The President was scheduled
to leave Washington by train
this morning for a day of cam
paigning in New York City. He
will make a nationwide radio
and television address tonight
from Madison Square Garden.
Biting Language Expected
Mr. Eisenhower was expected
in his address to use some of the
most biting language of his cam
paign in answering Stevenson's
foreign policy attacks. The Pres

Two Drivers Ciled
After Accidents
In Area Yesterday
Two drivers were cited
Wednesday, but no injuries were
reported in two separate acci
dents on Highway 62 and High
way 99, according to state police.
William T. Jackson, 23, Eagle
Point, was cited for having no
chauffer's license, and Eli
Thomas Burdett, 74, Eagle Point,
was cited for improper passing
after an accident north of the
Antelope creek bridge on High
way 62.
According to state police, Bur
dett, who was operating a sedan,
was following Jackson, who was
operating a dump truck. Both
were traveling north. After
crossing the bridge, Burdett
passed Jackson's truck, then cut
in front of the truck. Officers
said Jackson swerved to avoid
hitting the car and lost control
of the truck, which turned over
on its side.
No Injuries
There were no injuries and
Jackson's truck was placed back
on its wheels by wrecker. The
two vehicles did not collide. The
accident occurred at 3:35 p.m.
No citations were issued and
no injuries were reported in a
two-car collision at 8:41 a.m.
Wednesday on Highway 99 at
Fnoenix.
According to state police, Lee
Everett Beeney, 66, of 4445
South Pacific highway, Medford,
applied the brokes of his car to
avoid hitting an unidentified ve
hicle which had pulled onto the
highway m front of him. An
other car, operated bv Arnold
D. B-adley, 26, Burnsville, N.C.,
attempted to stop and skidded
into Beeney's vehicle. There
were no injuries in the accident
j and damage to the cars was
j minor.

Mr. Eisenhower maintains that

amounted to "good news" while
Stevenson insists that the situa
tion has deteriorated rather than
improved.
While in New York, Mr. Eisen
hower will not undertake an
extensive tour of Manhattan and
the adjacent boroughs. But upon
arrival, he was scheduled to
drive from Pennsylvania Rail
road station to his temporary
headquarters at the Commodore
Hotel at the peak of the lunch
hour while crowds are heavy on
the streets of Manhattan.
The Chief Executive and his

Wednesday a tough campaign
schedule for him next week. He
will speak in Miami and Jack
sonville, Fla., Richmond, Va,
Dallas, Tex., Oklahoma City,
Okla., Philadelphia and possibly
some additional cities.
Sulphuric Acid Fumes
Kill One; Injure 15
Chicago (U.R) One man was
killed and 15 others overcome
by sulphuric acid fumes that
seeped through a three-story
plant that manufactures sausage
casings early today.
Three of the 15 persons hos
pitalized were reported by hos
pital authorities to be in critical
condition.
Ambulances and police wag
ons rushed the injured to South
Town and Holy Cross Hospitals
from the Visking Corp., after
the fumes apparently seeped
through the plant from a vat in
the basement.
Police identified the' dead man
as Thomas Walker of suburban
Oak Lawn.
The plants is located on Chi
cago's Southwest Side in the
cleaning industrial district.
17,000 Animals in
Chicago Cattle Show
Chicago (U.R) Some 17,000
head of steer and heifer calves
and yearlings were entered in
the 12th annual Chicago Feeder
Cuttle Show , and Sale which
opened today.
The cattle will be sold at auc
tion Friday and Saturday. Bid
ders from 12 or more states were
expected to replenish feeder
stock on farms and ranches.
Cattle were entered from
Montana, Nebraska, New Mex
ico, Missouri. Colorado, Wyom
in, South Dakota, Oklahoma.
North Dakota, Texas, Illinois and
Wisconsin.
Bacteriological Warfare
Charged to U. S. by Russ
Moscow (U.R) The Soviet
magazine Military Knowledge
accused the American Army to
day of employing bacteriological
warfare while fighting the In
dians back in the 18th Century.
Tlie magazine, a monthly mili
tary and civil defense publica
tion, said American soldiers in
fected the Indians with small
pox and other diseases and cited
this as an indication that the
U.S. Army has been using bac
teriological weapons "for a long
time."
