Church Women
By Mission Service Worker
Members of Medford Council
of Church Women are inviting
all interested persons to hear
Geffory Hemingway who will
speak Friday afternoon, Novem
ber 2, in the sanctuary of First
Christian church on South
Oakdale avenue. Mr. Heming
way has just completed three
years mission service in Korea
and will interpret the nature of
war-relief and rehabilitation
work in Korea and the special
problems involved in this work.
, He was born in England and
is a graduate of the school of
economics. University of Lon
don. He served with the Friend's
Ambulance unit in Italy during
World War II. held a post on the
staff of the Italian Mission of
the United Nations Relief and
Rehabilitation Administrat i o n
during the past two years.
Other features during the
afternoon program will include
a speaking choir composed of
students from Hedrick Junior
High school under the direction
of Jerry McDougall. Mrs. Ralph
Matlack and Mrs. Gloria Smith
will sing a duct. Mrs. George
Rode will explain the purpose of
the Council of Church Women
and it's relation to the program
for lasting peace.
i Opening at 1C A.M., the morn
ing will be devoted to business
and the election of officers fol
lowed by a salad and hot dish
luncheon provided by the sev
eral affiliated churches. Each
church group is asked to pro
vide enough food for their own
group plus three extra. Rolls are
elso to be brought by the sev
eral groups. The hostess church
will provide coffee. Ministers
are invited to the luncheon
which will be served at . 12
o'clock and will be followed at
1 o'cock by the program. A nur
sery will be provided.

to Hear Talk
Hemingway, since his work is
related to mission programs as
carried out in all churches. Due
to the fact that the large cloth
ing drive for World Service was
conducted so very recently, it
has been decided not to bring
clothing to this service as has
been the custom in the past. Sev
eral local ministers will partici
pate in the devotional periods of
the afternoon.
Mrs. Robert Dames, TV pro
gram chairman for the council,
states that her program will be
heard during the Ore-Cal Pan
orama Thursday, November 1.
and that Mrs. Wayne Troxell of
First Christian church will ex
tend the greetings and invitation
to World Community Day activi
ties. A number by the speaking
choir of students, directed by
Dr. McDougall, is also to be
given.
Mrs. S. D. Earhart is in charge
of radio publicity and Mrs. J.
Claude Sparks, newspaper pub
licity. Campfire Girls
Blue Birds Organize
The Shining Blue Birds were
recently organized by second
graders from Washington, Jef
ferson and St. Mary's schools.
The girls have been busy mak
ing tote bags for Halloween
and visited a chinchilla farm.
They will soon be collecting
toys for the firemens annual
Christmas project.
Girls in the group are Melissa
Daniels, Sheryl Gerety, Patty
Grahma. Fay Hartsock, Carol
Ann Hildenbrand. Patty Huff
man, Christine Margin, Denna
McGee, Linda McGinty. Vicki
Sut Webster, and Joan Zenor.

AAUWTo Take
Public Poll for
Annual Exhibit
A public poll will again be
a feature of the sixth annual
Brt exhibit, sponsored by Med
ford branch, American Associa
tion of University Women, at the
Medford hotel November 1 and
2. The show will be open from
7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday
and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday.
The exhibit is being held in
observance of National Art
Week. AAUW branches through
out the national encourage art,
through participation and study
grotips. There is an entire di
vision of the association devot
ed to art in its various aspects.
Artists should take their ex
hibits to the Medford hotel be
fore noon Thursday, November
1. Each artist is limited to two
works, not before shown in an
AAUW exhibit, and completed
within the last two years. Oils
and pastels must be framed, and
water colors, charcoals and
drawings must be matted.

Bishop Coadjutor
To Speak Monday
All women of St. Mark's Epis
copal parish are invited to attend
a meeting of the Southern Ore
gon Deanery Monday, Actober
29.
Holy Communion at 11:00 a.m.
will be followed by a business
meeting. Luncheon will be
served by St. Mark's "Women's
auxiliary at 12:30 p.m.
Rt. Rev. James W. F. Cermen,
D.D., bishop - coadjutor, will
speak. He will be accompanied
here by his wife. Also attending
will be Mrs. Philip Herbig, Eu
gene, diocesan auxiliary presi
dent. Many others are expected
from Roseburg and the other
parishes and missions in South
ern Oregon.
Reservations for luncheon are
to be made by calling 3-4591 by
Friday. Mrs. W. B. Clegg will
preside over the meeting.
