Opens New Year
At Session Thursday
McLoughlin Parent - Teirher
i ssociation adopted a budaet at
the firt meeting of the group
held October 13 at the school.
Mrs. Lloyd Parsons, pres'dent.
conducted the meeting.
The GiriV chorus sang three
rumbers. Officers of he unit
and members of the teaching
ttaff were introduced.
It was announced that the
unit now has 308 members.
"Back o school night" will
be held at the school November
;3, Tuesday, and the next reg
ular meet'ng of the group will'
be in January.
Prospect Groups
To Hold Dinner;
Announce Event
Prospect The annual turkey
dinner for Prospect Lions club
and the auxiliary will be held
tonight at Beckie's cafe, Union
Creek.
At the last meeting of the
auxiliary, held at the home of
Mrs. George Kansky, Union
Creek, reports on the recent
ruxiliary workshop in Grants
l'as were givn.
It was announced that Pros
icct Lions club will hold a tur
key shoot Sunday, November
18. in Prospect.

Of Eastern Star
Arriving in Medford tomor
row will be Mrs. Bertha O. Bur
ton, Portland, worthy grand
matron of the Older of Eastern
Star for Oregon. Mrs. Burton
will be honored at a district
meeting of the OES to be held
Thursday at 8 p.m. in Medford
Masonic hall.
Four chapters will take part
in the meeting, with Reames
chapter, Medford, as the host
group. Mrs. E. G. Randolph is
vorthy matron of the chapter.
Participating will be Adarel
chapter, Jacksonville, of which
Mrs. Orville Shores is matron;
Nevita chapter. Central Point,
headed by Mrs. Melvin McGrew,
matron, and Alpha chapter, Ash
land, of which Mrs. R. E. Van
Vleet is worthy matron.
Mrs. Burton will be honored
at a banquet preceding the dis
. trict session. It will be held In
the Pioneer room at the Jackson
hotel at 6 p.m.
Washington PTA
Plans Scholarship
Washington Parent-Teachers
association will award a full
teaching scholarship to a Med
ford High school graduate this
year, it was announced at the
first meeting of the school year
held October 19 at the school.
! Members of the sixth grade
class presented a "United Na-
l tions Day" play which will also
be presented on television this
i week.

ed by Robert Sage, principal.

ident, 1 n t r oduced executive
board members.
Mrs. Graves, first grade, won
: the room count for most mothers
in attendance.
1 Girl Scout Troop 180, led by
Mrs. Victor Taylor, presented
, the colors and also helped the
"study group" with baby sitting
I during the meeting.
Mothers of children in the first
' grade served refreshments.

Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Charley, Beall lane, art shown her

list. Mr. Charley is hospitality co-chairman with Mrs. Carl Hover,
and the two chairmen, along with other officers of the unit, in
terested more than 200 members in attending the first fall meeting
of the unit last night. Mrs. C. B. Cordy is president.
Medford Lodge
Has Harvest Ball
The Harvest ball given by
Medford Elks last Saturday
night drew a capacity attend
ance. The Starlighters. 10-piece
band from Klamath Falls, pro
vided music.
Dancing was in the lodge
room, decorated in the. harvest
theme, and a buffet supper was
served in the party lounge down
stairs. Ed Nave was chairman of the
committee which planned the
dance,' and he was assisted by C.
J. Niehaus, James Grigsby Jr.,
and Bill Towne.

Organize Group
An Intermediate Luther
league was organized at Zion
Lutheran church last Sunday
evening. The group is for young
people of seven and eighth grade
age.
Miss Patty Brewold was elect
ed president, and Eric Ewaldsen,
vice-president. Kip Jepson is
secretary; Jerry Timms, treas
urer and Miss Barbara Meyers,
program chairman.
Sponsors of the group are Mr.
and Mrs. William Gates and 'Mr.
and Mrs. Dale Davis.

Ashland Southern Oregon
college freshman will hold a
Freshman Frolics Friday, Oct
ober 26 in the auditorium of
Churchill hall. The event begins
at 9 p.m. and both dancing and
games are planned. Bob Ander
son's trio will play, and refresh
ments will be served.
Students are asked to wear
hard times or Halloween cos
tumes, and prizes for the most
original, the funniest and most
typical will be awarded. Med
ford merchants are supplying the
prizes.
Miss Dolores Shuler. Medford,
is general chairman. Miss Carol
Ballard. Medford, is chairman
of decorations, and Miss Sonja
Smith, refreshments. Larry
Qualman, Empire. Ore., is pub
licity chairman and the Misses
Barbara Maxson and Joanne
Hult. both Medford, will take
charge of games. Miss Schuler
arranged music, and Miss Susie
Lee. Roseburg, is invitations
chairman.
Miss Shuler states that no
charge will be made for the
party.

To Meet on Thursday
Women of Golden Link Bible
class of First Baptist Church will
meet Thursday, October 25, at
1 p.m., at the home of Mrs. Ethel
Van Cleave, 730 Alder street.
The meeting will begin with des
sert luncheon.
A devotional study on Elijah,
entitled "Obedience," will be
presented by Mrs. Leonard Sten
erson. The social committee will be
composed of Mesdames N. A.
Mead, Amy Randle and H. E.
Webber.
