PROPOSED ANNEXATIONS A meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. today in
the city hall for residents of the Berrydale district living in the area proposed
for annexation. City officials scheduled the meeting to discuss with Berrydale
residents legal and financial implications of annexation. Residents of the area
will vote on annexation at the Nov. 6 general election. The Berrydale district
proposed, for annexation is shown above within the shaded area west of the
double shaded line extending south from Biddle rd. The general boundaries of
the Berrydale district are east of Southern Pacific railroad tracks, south of a
point just north of Merriman rd. including a section along Table Rock rd. ex
tending in a southerly direction to just west of Biddle rd. and south to McAn-
drews. The proposed area does not include property owned by Medford corpo
ration. The section enclosed in the shaded area east of the double shaded line
near Biddle rd. is the Kenwood-Grandview district, in which residents Nov. 6
also will vote on annexation. The general boundary follows a line along Crater
Lake highway to north of Delta Waters rd., east to east of Springbrook rd. and
a line extending in a southerly direction to a point east of Brookdale rd., and
west just south of Buckshot Hill rd. then south to the present city limits north
of Jackson st. and east of Wabash ave. The Kenwood-Grandview district does

Squad Approaches
Nosedive at Rally 1
Seattle (U.R) The Republi
cans' flying truth squad came
close to taking a nosedive here
last night when Sen. Karl E.
Mundt of South Dakota left the
news conference.
The truth squad came here
close on the heels of Adlai Ste
venson for the purpose of "cor
recting" any "erroneous" state
ments the Democratic presiden
tial nominee might make in his
address at a Seattle rally.
One member of the GOP
squad. Sen. William A. Purtell
of Connecticut didn't even show
up. A press representative said
he was in his hotel room
. "pooped out."
Another member of the group.
Rep. Donald L. Jackson left the
squad because of illness and was
reported to have gone to his
home in California.
Television Appearance
Sen. Arthur V. Watkins of
Utah, who joined the squad a
few hours before it arrived here,
was the only member left after
Mundt was whisked off to make
a television appearance.
Watkins admitted that he was
"pretty green" at the job but he
bravely tried to carry on when
the irate reporters threatened to
walk out.
Ho contended that Stevenson
"should be required to present a
bill of particulars" in connection
with the Democrat's statement
which Watkins said implied that
President Eisenhower was not
spending enough time at his job.
Stevenson had referred to Mr.
Eisenhower as a "part-time
President."

Mack said:

Amateur Hour on TV. opened
the bag. and while rocking roll
ed a "Mack-made" cigarette that
looked like something tailor
made, closed the strings with his
teenth professional - like, and
pocketed my makin's.
"Wait a tobacco-rollin' min
ute," I protested. "That thar
was a souvenir of a day "long
past. About the only thing a
man can buy for a nickel any
more." Then Ted changed the
subject and said "Let's look at
some of these kids we found in
Ireland. They're going to be the
whole show Sunday night on
the amateur show." The "kids"
were, too.
More To Come
The State Department has
complimented a job-well-done in
the business of hands across the
sea. So now Ted is working on
future shows, bringing the best
of class from Israel, Spain, and
Mexico and so on.
Before 'lunch, Ted said he
wanted me to meet some of the
folks his agents found in old
Eire.
There were many. There was
Maureen Hurley, who was to
accompany herself on a 100-
year-old harp, which she brought

She said there could be no re
placement and she was to sing
something called "By The Green
Banks," an Irish ballad.
George Boyle, likewise of
Dublin, is a ventriloquist. He
lugged along three dummies,
which he called "figures," in
the Irish manner, and which
he made with is own hands.
Just For Laughs
Thomas Barry, another Dub
linite, was the Irish version of
comedy. He had the wit and
the gift for it. He bounced about
and made like, in two or three
languages, that he was calling :
his girl for a date on a Saturday j
night.
In a sort of pre-view of the !
show that came later, were the
Sun Spots: Patrick Henry Arch-
dale Ellison, Brian Myles Wil
liams, and Donald Leslie Keeg- .
an. These three, equipped with
two guitars and three blending
male voices, did a combination
of rock and roll. I suppose that's ;
what they did.
Michael Ryan, of Limerick,
said he was a "pork butcher."
He said he learned to make
music himself with spoons.
"I sort of rattle across my
own bones with these spoons," j
he said. "I learned how to do
it when I was in the Irish army.

to get away from, what you

Salem U.R) Final prepara
tions were complete today for
the first, hearing of the State
Water Resources board in Rose
burg, Oct: 15-16.
Board Chairman H. E. Maxey
said his group and the Douglas
county water resources advisory
committee would make a two
day inspection trip of the Ump
qua basin Oct. 13-14 to get ac
quainted with the area's water
problems.
Maxey said a hearing was nec
essary to arrive at methods of
conserving and augmenting the
water resources of the basin. He
said the hearing should bring
out a forecast of future require
ments on which a water use pro
gram could be formulated in ac
cordance with standards set up
by the Legislature.
