it seems to us that you'd better explain it. Perhaps you
will explain to the people of southern Oregon ...
1. Why you voted against the order which stopped shipments of mil
itary material to Red China (The Formosa Resolution) ...
2. Why you advocated that the United States "abstain from voting"
to keep Red China out of the United Nations ...
3. How you can accept tens of thousands of dollars in campaign con
tributions from out-of-state union bosses, and still keep your so
called independence ...
4. Why you fought for a bill that would have put hundreds of small
businessmen, loggers, and millworkers in Oregon out of business
(the Gore Highway Bill, which would have raised the tax on truck
tires one thousand percent) ...
5. How you can possibly claim to be interested in Oregon's natural
resources, when you got only one bill passed in ten years that had
any bearing on natural resources ...
6. Why you consider the people of Oregon too ignorant to pay any
attention to, when important issues are at stake ("If I were satisfied
that every man and woman in the state of Oregon wanted me to
vote for this bill (Taft-Hartley Bill) I would still vote against it ")
7. Why, when President Eisenhower's primary concern was stopping
the war in Korea, you referred to the President as "the most dan
gerous man who will ever have been in the White House" ...
8. Finally, Senator, can you name just three solid accomplishments
for the people of Oregon you have achieved in twelve years in the
Senate?
We must restrict you to work for Oregon and Oregonians. We can't
accept 22-hour filibusters and work for Eastern union bosses as fit
ting achievement for the people of Oregon.
CAN YOU GIVE US STRAIGHT ANSWERS TO THESE QUESTIONS, SENATOR?
