Nurses Hold
Convention
In Medford
Opening sessions of the an
nual convention of Oregon Li
censed Practical Nurses' assoc
iation are being held here today
at the Jackson hotel. About 80
delegates are attending and Mrs.
Oma Pysher. Portland, state pres
ident, is conducting the sessions.
She presided over a state board
session last night.
Dr. Alvin Robert was speaker
for a luncheon today, his topic
being "Better Patient Care." Dr
Donald McCeary addressed a
session at 1:30 o'clock and Dr.
Edwin R. Durno, Miss Gertrude
Molloy, R.N., and Miss Doris
Manasco, nurse's aide, partici
pated in a panel discussion on
"Today's Hospital Team."
Following business sessions
delegates were taken on a tour
of Bear. Ceek Packing company
Thursd: y delegates will hr-ar
reports and elect officers. The
convention will close Thursday
night with banquet in the Pio
neer room. Dr. Elmo Stevenson,
president of Southern Oregon
college, will address the ban
quet and officers will be install
ed. The association is newly or
ganized in the state, the group
having been formed as a part of
a nation-wide movement to pro
mote practical nursing in an ef
fort to relieve the shortage of
nurses.
Four schools are now in op
eration in the state to train wo
men in practical nursing, and
establishment of others is con
templated. National and state
standards have been established,
and examinations are required
for those seeking licenses.
Ruch PTA"Plans
Meeting Friday
Ruch Ruch Parent-Teacher
association will hold the first
meeting of this school year, Fri
day. October S, at 8 p.m. in the
school gymnasium.
All parents are invited to vis
it the various classrooms before
the meeting, and meet the teach
er! and newcomers to the com
munity. ,
A program on safety will be
presented by the sixth and sev
enth grades under the direction
of Kenneth Nivens.
Refreshments will be served
by the executive committee.

Voters' League
Holds Meeting;
Units Explained
A visual presentation of the
year's calendar was the means of
introducing the resource chair
men of the League of Women
Voters of Medford during a
luncheon meeting held Saturday
at Rogue Valley Country club.
Those participating in the pre
sentation were Mrs. Ogden Kel
logg, Gold Hill, state item chair
man; Mrs. Charles Crary, nation
al item; Mrs. Dunbar Carpenter,
local item; Mrs. John Ouster-
hout, finance, and Mrs. I. S.
Thomas, voters' service chair
man. Mrs. Thomas was assisted
by members of her committee,
Mrs. Don Bohnert. Miss Laura
York, Mrs. Gordon McKenzie,
Mrs. Harold Snodgrass and Mrs.
Ronald James.
Mrs. Hugh Collins spoke brief
ly on the part the study units
play in the league program. She
emphasized the fact that the
units are the backbone of league
activity, and the basis for all
league programs. League can
take active stands only on issues
that have been suggested by a
majority of league u n i t s for
study, and on any issue only af
ter all sides and factors relating
to the issue have been studied.
Concluding her talk, Mrs. Col
lins conducted a buzz session fol
lowed by reading and answering
the questions brought out in the
session.
New members introduced were
Mrs. J. C. Collins, Mrs. Stewart
Milnes, Mrs. Richard Pedley,
Mrs. Carlton Bismark. Mrs.
Maurice Ritchey and Mrs. Ar
thur McMillin.
Mrs. Homer Marx was in
charge of arrangements.

Presented Caps
Four dental assistants received
their caps during a meeting of
the Southern Oregon Dental As
sistants' association held Septem
ber 26 at Oakdale clinic. They
were Miss Marilyn Myhre. Miss
Janice Stanford, Mrs. Eloise Ni
ckel, Grants Pass, and Miss June
Stewart.
Eleven women from Medford
traveled to. Portland recently to
take the certification examina
tion. All had finished an extens
ive training course given under
the direction of several Medford
dentists, and following an out
line provided by national certifi
cation headquarters. .
Taking the examination were

Results of the examination
will not be known for several
weeks.
The association issues an invi
tation to all dental assistants in
southern Oregon to attend the
meetings, held the fourth Wed
nesday evening of each month.
Time and place of the meetings
will be announced in the calen
dar of the Mail Tribune.
Fifteen members and seven
visitors attended the meeting.

Congressman Harris Ellsworth to
Attend Neighborhood Parties
A series of informal neighbor
hood coffee parties will be held
in the county Friday and Sat
urday, in order that anyone in
terested may meet Congressman
Harris Ellsworth. The congress
man arrived in the county Monday.
Any voter who would like to
talk with Congressman Ells
worth is invited to attend the
party in his own neighborhood,
it is stated.
First of the coffees will be
held at 9 a.m. Friday at the
home of Mrs. W. W. Howard,
1707 West Main street and the
second at 10 a.m. at the home of
Mrs. W. J. Warner, 519 South
uakdale avenue. Others are
scheduled at the home of Mrs
Otto Ewaldsen, 20 Ross court;
11 a.m. and Mrs. Dwight Find-
ley, Old Stage road at 1 p.m. As
sisting Mrs. Findley will be Mrs
Francis Chenev, Mrs. Minnie
Blackstone and Mrs. Alfred
Beck.

day afternoon, one at 2:30 p.m.
in the Applegate schoolhouse,
with Mrs. Lester Adams as hos
tess, and the second at 3:45 p.m.
in the Ruch school gymnasium
with Mrs. Evelyn Winningham
as hostess
The Saturday series will begin
with a coffee hour at the home
of Mrs. Meyers Jones, 1813 Min
nesota avenue, at 9 a.m. and at
10 a.m. the congressman will be
at the home of Mrs. Lester Gil
man, Merriman road. Mrs. Ches
ter Ashton will be hostess for
the third to be held in the Le
gion hall on Pine street in Cen
