Supervisor Reviews
FHA Expanded Credit
Services Available
Grants Pass Freeman H.
Dull, area supervisor of the
Farmers Home administration,
reviewed new legislation which
will expand credit services avail
able through FHA with county
committee members from Jack
son and Josephine counties this
week.
Dull pointed out the new law
provides broader authorities to
iflTitt. sjauiJEj edXi-Xriiuei jsisse
loans to improve and operate
farms. Also included in broad
er authority are loans for re
financing certain existing debts
and an increase in the maximum
amount that can be advanced
for operating loans.
Limited Funds
Limited funds also are au
thorized for loans for operating
and developing farms where the
farmer has part-time employ
ment off the farm, Dull noted.
Present loan services of FHA,
Dull said, will continue to be
available. They include loans for
operating expenses, develop
ment and purchase of family
type farms, farm housing, soil
and water conservation, and
loans to meet emergency credit
needs.
Loans to refinance existing
debts, Dull said, will be avail
able until June 30, 1959, to own
ers of family-type farms. Dull
said the loans will help farm
families who have adequate real
estate security and who are
otherwise in a sound position but
who are unable to meet present
credit obligations and need
credit on more favorable terms
and conditions than is currently
available from other lenders.
Operating Loans
Initial operating loans under
the new law may be in amounts
up to $10,000 to one borrower.
The loans are used for purchas
ing equipment, livestock, fertil
izer, seed, and other farm and

The new law increases from
seven to 10 years the period dur

when the inability of the borrow
er to repay within seven years
is due to causes beyond his con
trol, Dull pointed out.
Loans also can be made for
operating and developing less

applicants are established bona
fide farmers who have"historical

he said.
Interest Rates
Interest rates and terms on
loans for operating and develop

will vary depending upon the
purpose for which the loan is
obtained, Dull pointed out.
Loans for operating expenses
will be repayable over periods
up to seven years, and the inter
