'Medford BPWC Announces
First "Beep of the Week"
Mrs. Harriett Watson was chosen "Beep of the Week" at the
September meeting of Medford Business and Professional Wom
en's club Thursday at Roxy Ann Grange hall.
Selection of a popular and outstanding member of the club
as "Beep" was inaugurated by the club this year as a part of
National Business Women's week, to be celebrated throughout
the nation September 23-30
Mri. Harriett Watson, chosen as "Beep of the Week" by Med
ford Business and Professional Women's club Thursday night, is
shown here receiving a banner from Miss Voda Brower, club
president. Selection of the "Beep," first ever chosen by the club,
marks the opening of National Business Women's week here. Mrs.
Watson, a past president, will be honored at a number of events
planned for the week.
Golden Wedding DinnerGiven
For Medford Couple on Sunday
Mr. and Mrs. E. Earl Heft,
211 North Columbus avenue,
were honored by friends who
gave a dinner in celebration of
their golden wedding anniver
sary, Sunday, September 16, in
the annex of the Assembly of
God church, following the
morning service. It was planned
as a surprise to the couple.
Mrs. Wallace Nylander sang,
accompanied at the piano by
Mrs. Lloyd Thornton. A gift of
50 one-dollar bills was present
ed them by the Rev. R. E. Cull
in behalf of himself and mem
bers of the church.
Mrs. Heft, the former Estella
M. Grisham, and her husband
were married in Jackson coun
ty, September 5, 1906. at the
home of her parents. Mr. and
Mrs. David M. Grisham. Mr.
Heft came to this connty from
Michigan in 1904. while his
bride, a native of Nebraska, ar
rived in Jackson county with
her parents in 1900.
The Hefts have one daughter,
Mrs. Edward Bingham, 16 Mis
tletoe street, and two grandchil
dren, G. Edwin Bingham, at
present attending University of
Oregon, and Mrs. Norman Love.
Their great granddaughter just
missed being born on their fif
tieth wedding anniversary. Baby
Ramona Delene Love arrived at
a Medford hospital September
6, about eight hours too late for
the celebration.
In charge of arrangements for
the occasion was Mrs. Alfred
Bendickson, assisted by Mrs.
Guy C. Erickson, Mrs. William
McKinley and Mrs. Don L. Ja-

the schedule of events and stat
ed that Mrs. Watson will be
honored at these. After Mrs.
Watson's selection Thursday
night, she was presented a ban
ner by Miss Voda Brower, presi
dent of the club, and asked to
wear it during the day as she
worked at The California-Ore
gon Power company, and to func
tions given 'in her honor. It was
stressed that Mrs. Watson as
"Beep of the Week" will sym
bolize the modern business wo
man.
Purpose of the national week
is to promote friendly working
relationships between all train
ed working women in all dif
ferent industries and professions
and to arouse interst in the
increasing importance of the
contribution of business women
to the national economy, it is
stated.
Attending the meeting as
guest was Miss Stella Selliah, a
career woman from Singapore
visiting in Medford. She took an
informal part in the panel dis
cussion of "Career Advancement
for Women" arranged and mod
erated by Miss Laura York, pro
gram chairman for the evening.
Opening the week is a break
fast given in honor of Mrs. Wat
son at nine o'clock this morn
ing at Rogue Valley Country
Club. After this breakfast, spon
sored by the executive board
and presided over by Miss Brow
er, members plan to attend in
groups the eleven o'clock ser
vice of churches of their choice

Now With Band;
To Tour Europe
Miss Jean Drysdale, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Drysdale, 618 Chestnut avenue,
had joined the Ann Jones West
ern Sweethearts, all-girl band,
as featured accordionist. Miss
Drysdale, who attended Mc
McLoughlin Junior High school
last year, left Portland August
29 and accompanied the band on
a tour through Idaho, Montana
and North Dakota.
The band traveled into Canada
last week, is booked south into
Washington, D.C., and later will
tour Europe, North Africa, and
Near East countries under the
sponsorship of United Service
Organizations.
The accordionist first studied
music at St. Mary's school and
later played with Mrs. Eve
Prentice's Accordianas. More
recently she studied with Caesar
Muzzioli of Medford. The band
tour will take several months,
Mrs. Drysdale reports.

ied by Mrs. Heft's relatives. Mr.
and Mrs. Nathan D. Grisham,
Central Point, were also enter
tained in Grants Pass at the
home of Mrs. Heft's sister, Mr.
and Mrs. Adrian G. Thompson,
formerly of Medford.

From Long Trip
