were called to the home of Ed
Hagen. 1905 Stewart ave. about
2:50 p.m. yesterday when an
electrical short caused damage
to a clothes dryer. The fire was
out on arrival of a rural depart
ment pumper. The East Side sta
tion was called to the Marshall
Rotan residence, 1850 Barnett
rd., about 3:06 p.m. yesterday.
An electrical 'short caused slight
damage to one wall, firemen
said. Firemen also stood by
about 8:25 p m. yesterday when
a transformer shorted in a used
car lot at the corner of Main and
Fir sts. California Oregon Pow

to repair damage.

Hill, was recently named out
standing trainee for the Reg
imental Guard reserve. His selec
tion by personnel in the Reg
imental Guard was based on ap
pearance, understanding of gen
eral orders and military orders.
Lance has also been selected
one of the three most outstand
ing men in his entire company
and placed fourth highest in rifle
marksmanship i n competition
with 237 men. He is a 1956
graduate of Crater High school
and joined the regiment in
February.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jen
nie Lamb, 77, of 742 West 14th
St.. Medford, who died Friday
will be held in Conger-Morris
chapel at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
The Rev. John York of the
Church of Christ will officiate.
Committal will be in the IOOF
cemetery.
Mrs. Lamb was born July 30,
1879, in Waitsburg, Wash. On
Sept. 11. 1920, in Medford. she
was married to W. R. Lamb,
who survives. She was a member
of the West Main Church of
Christ.
Survivors besides her husband
include two sons, Ralph Bellin
ger, Seattle, Wash.; and Clyde
Lamb, Medford; two daughter,
Elsie Ellsworth, Fair Oaks,
Calif.; and Dorothy Zimmerman.

Mrs. Dutton was born March
31, 1868, in Kylertown. Pa., and

st., Medford, who died Monday

Mr. Ragsdale was born Sept.
9. 1907, in Trail, Ore. On April
11. 1941, at Reno, Nev. He was
married to Etna Chamberlain,
who survives. He was a veteran
of World War II. He had been
employed by Copco since Aug.
24. 1936.

Caska E. Allen, 78. of Apple
gate, died Sept. 17 in a local
hospital.
He was born in Minnesota
May 17, 1878. He had made his
home at the Ed Kubli ranch in
the Applegate valley for the past
nine years.
Funeral services will be held
at the Siskiyou Crematorium at
11 a.m. Thursday. Perl Funeral
home is in charge.
He is survived by two broth
ers, Charles L. Allen. Ronam,
Mont.; and Francis W. Allen,
Portland; one sister, Mrs. C. L.
Fleming. New Port, Wash., and
one nephew, C. F. Rathbone,
Santa Anna, Calif., and several
nieces and nephews.

Arthur J. Kindrick, 44. of 602
North Riverside ave., Medford,
died in a local hospital last
night.
Mr. Kindrick was born Nov.
7, 1911, in Idabelle, Okla., and
has been a resident of Medford
for the past two years. He was
a veteran of World War II.

his wife, Mrs. Blanche Kindrick.

Francis Marion Shontz, 64, of
route 1, box 400, Gold Hill, died
at his home this morning. He
had lived in the Gold Hill area
for the past 15 years.
Mr. Shontz was born Nov. 3,
1892, in Sheldon. Iowa.
He is survived by his wife.

Attempts Suicide
Wilhelmine Clara Grummert,
69. of 107 South Orange St., Med
ford, was in critical condition
at Sacred Heart hospital this
morning, according to attend
ants, after reportedly attempt
ing to commit suicide Monday.
City police said they were
called to the Grummert resi
dence at 12:11 p.m. Monday by
the victim's husband, Herman T.
Grummert. He told officers he
had returned home for lunch
about 11:15 a.m. and found his
wife in the kitchen with a safety
razor blade in each hand, cutting
at her throat.
Grummert said he called a
physician, then notified officers.
She was taken to Sacred Heart
hospital by Medford ambulance
service. Police said she is suf
fering from severe cuts on sev
eral parts of her body. Officers
reported Grummert was in a
state of shock when they arrived
on the scene.
