County B league football cham
pionships will see club with a
nucleus of veterans and supple
mented by inexperienced but
promising players Saturday
night when the Crusaders oppose
Sacred Heart of Klamath Falls
at the senior hizb stadium.
Game time is 8 p.m. There is
no loop or district significance
to the opener for both schools
except that the tussle will af
ford some comparison with
Klamath county clubs which are
in St. Mary's district.
Possible offensive starters for
KM are John Brunk and Richard
Cooper, ends; Dave Crevier and
Dave Goodman, guards: Francis
Murphy and Alson Geren.
tackles: James Miller, center and
Jim Darlanri, Ed Fogel. Dick
Hayes and Ron Pruitt, backs.
Dave Espey, Rodney Read and
Terry Cooper could start in the
backfield and are expected to
ee considerable duty alone with
Jack Daley. Darland and Fogel
were linemen last year.
Read and Darland may be de
fensive ends with Goodman and
Michael Feiss guards and Geren
and Murphy tackles. Line-backers
may he chosen from among
Miller, George Lucas, Crevier
and Feis and the halfbacks from
among Fogel. Espey and Pruitt
with Terry Cooperat safety.
Terry Cooper and Lucas are
freshman. Goodman is a trans
fer from Jacksonville who
played football at Prescott, Ariz.
Jack Daley, a transfer back from
Jacksonville, has seen limited
practice.

State Game commission, said to
day. As the end of last week, 29,007
chinooks had been tallird this
season. Stemming from the run
nf 18.483 fish in 1952, this means
that this year's run is 157 per
cent return of its parent run.
The excellent 1956 run can
partially be explained by the
lack of a scouring high water
during the months the eggs of
the 1952 run were in the gravel
and by the minimum of losses
by disease while the downstream
migrants were moving to salt
water during the summer of
1953.
The tally nf summer-run steel
head over Gold Ray is 1,514
which is on a level equal to the
previous 10-year average .of
counts on corresponding dates.

the Ober logging special, held his
lead last Saturday night at the
Valley View speedway and even
increased by three points for a
73-point lead over Wayne Lem
ley, A37, now in second place.
Crock has 409 markers and
Wayne has 336.
Bobby Wilcox held his third
place with 289 in his M27 car
and Bob Jenkins. MIS, is now
in fourth place with 280. Johnny
Jones, M77, held on to his num
ber five spot with 250 points.
All will be out to better them
selves this Saturday at the track
near Ashland. Time trials are
at B:30 p.m. and the first race
at 8 p.m.
With only a few more racing
meets left in the 1956 season,
drivers are all gunning for a
higher place in the standings
either to hold the spot they have
Cecil James, the "Iron Man",
is only four points out of the
top 12 and has several offers
to drive fast cars to put him
back up there.

sional football New York Giants
lived up to their nickname yes
terday when souvenier hunters
stole a dozen of their scarlet
jerseys from the Portland uni
versity locker room while the
Giants were working out.
The stolen jerseys were so
large they could not be replaced
by local sporting goods stores.
The Giants finally solved their
problem by lend-lease with the
San Francisco Forty Niners,
who play the Giants here Sat
urday night. Spare Forty Niner
jerseys will be dyed and num
bered in San Francisco and
flown to the game with the
Forty Niner team.

Comets Play Eagle Point
