From Camp White

American Gold Star Mothers
of America are being honored
this week on the VAVS plaque
display of special services, ac
cording to an announcement by
E. K. Ricker, manager of Camp
White.
VFW auxiliary units of the
Rogue valley entertained at the
recreation center Friday after
noon. Lelia Birch, department
hospital chairman, was assisted
by Jim and Mary Cassel and
Freddy Holt, Shady Cove; Helen
Lusk, Amy Randall and Alice
Beneka, Medford; and Chauncey
and Vada Page, Gold Hill. Visi
tors were Mrs. Laura Fones, a
Baltimore guest of Mrs. Holt,
Mrs. Martin of Central Point and
the Holt children, Scott and
Diane. Fresh peaches were distributed.
Grants Pass American Legion
Post 28 and its auxiliary were
hosts at a picnic in the city park
Saturday afternoon. Legion Post
Commander A. M. Walk and
Auxiliary President 'Mrs. A.
Cleland invited staff officers of
the VA domicilary as special
guests. They included Manager
and Mrs. Ricker, Assistant Man
ager and Mrs. H. Jaffrey, Dr.
and Mrs. Wallace Pianca, Spe
cial Services Chief and Mrs. F.
J. Glonning, Mrs. Thelma Wil
liams and Ruth Treed of Med
ford and the children of these
staff members.
Following the picnic lunch,
these visitors were guests at the
Guy H. Wilcox home on . the
Rogue river for a fresh black
berry treat. Announcement was
made of Mrs. Wilcox's attend
ance at the Los Angeles national
convention of the Legion and
auxiliary. Plans were discussed
relative to the VAD facility here.
Registrar division of the VA
domiciliary heW the annual
group picnic at Lithia park in
Ashland Saturday afternoon,
Loren Dover, registrar, in mem
bers of the department and 10
children had charcoal - cooked
hamburgers and home made ice
cream for lunch.
'Judging of the flower garden
group of VAD in the special ser
vices second annual Field Day
program was conducted Monday
with Mrs. Lelia Birch, Shady
Cove, as chairman. Mrs. Frieda
Lawrence, Mrs. Olive Poe and
Mrs. Van Quackenbush, Med
ford, presented awards for the
16 exhibits.
Contestants were divided into
two groups, member employees
and regular detail assignment
members. Five prizes were !
awarded to each group. !
Chuck Taylor, Ray Hearne, Al
Priot, Dick Kramer and Guy
Marton won in the member em
ployee class. Walter Odegard,
Hans Sorenson and Leland Green
combined to take second prize.
Robert Ruhr, Matt Lucas and
John Allen were prize winners
of the detail member group. Vis
itors to the field events pro
gram are invited by VAD per
sonnel to make the tour of these
spots.
Military Order of Cooties Pup
Tent 3 of Medford conducted a
cigarette spread Friday after
noon. Ivan Lusk, past seam
squirrel and hospital chairman,
was in charge of the event, with
Helen Lusk, lady goldbug of tent
4, and Frank Clayton asisting.

a whiff and taste of such deli
cacies as sliced wild boar in wine
sauce and kangaroo tail soup.
These are among the more
than 4.000 fancy foods and can
dies which have been on dis
play here.
More than 20,000 buyers for
retail establishments across the
country attended the second an
nual National Fancy Food and
Confectionery Show, which fea
tured the delicacies of 40 foreign
nations.
Russian! Took Part
Even the Russians took part in
the show. They displayed caviar
aimed at exciting the palates of
capitalists.
Trade sources said imports of
foreign delicacies will hit a rec
ord high this year possibly ap
proaching the $2 billion mark.

ers. So was Germany's exotic
entrant canned sliced wild
boar in wine sauce..
