Five Accidents
In Jackson
County
Highway! in Jackson county
were spotted. Saturday and Sun
day with five automobile acci
dent. One person was in the
hospital this morning as a result,
and another was reported to
have received minor injuries.
A one-car wreck did extensive
damage to the front and sides of
an auto driven by Donald War
ren Stetson, 32, of 111 Lindley
ave. at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday.
Stetson took the curve at
Miller's gulch bridge on highway
99 at about 55 to 60 miles per
hour, officers said, and his car
skidded across the highway and
lodged against a telephone pole.
Stetson complained of a back in
jury and was taken to Sacred
Heart hospital by a friend. He
was reported in "good" condi
tion this morning.
State police reported that at
4:35 p.m. Saturday on South
Stage rd., a car driven by Minnie
Bell Ebel, 77, of 620 South Oak
dale ave., went out of control
and knocked over about 10 mail
boxes. Minor damage was done
to the vehicle and it was taken
away by a wrecker called by the
owner.
Man Jailed
A sedan driven by Thomas
Verne Carter, 54, of Ashland,
and a convertible operated by
Thornton Edward Pierce, 45, of
route 1, box 265. Talent, col
lided at the intersection of high
way 99 and Valley View rd. at
11:15 p.m. Saturday. -
Annabel Krout Pierce. 46, pas
senger in the Pierce car. was
taken to Community hospital in
Ashland with minor injuries.
state police said Pierce was
lodged in the county jail charged
with being drunk on a public
highway.
At the same intersection, cars
driven by Lawrence Dale
Haynes, 15, of Ashland, and Ed
win Bennett Mason, 68, of Ster
ling City, Calif., collided about
1:10 p.m. Sunday. Minor damage
was incurred by both cars.
Conflicting Reports
State police said conflicting
reports were received from per
sons involved in an accident on
highway 99 a mile south of
Rogue River at about 12:15 p.m.
Sunday. The first vehicle was
operated by Lenora Kain, 68, of
Hermosa Beach, Calif., and the
second by David Timothy Par
sons, 16. of route 1, box 323,
Gold Hill. The investigating of
ficer said It appeared as though
the Kain car had stopped on the
shoulder while a man in the car
got out and crossed the highway
on foot to visit a fruit stand.
Meanwhile, the driver started to
drive the auto across the high
way. The Parsons vehicle was
travelling down the highway and
struck the crossing car crum
pling both autos' fenders. No
citations were issued.
