Journal of Pediatrics, Drs. Nor
man J. Rosenberg and Earl E.
Smith, of Cleveland, discussed

trouble is gen
erally due to
transient syno

flammation of
the lining of
the joint. The
cause is not

condition tends to clear up by
itself, and hence there is no rea
son for great alarm. However,
the child should have an x-ray
study made by an expert to be
sure that no other more serious
disease is present.
.Usually there is a vague ache
which causes a slight limp, or
some pain at night. Rarely there
is a little fever. The child may
lie with the thigh on the affect
ed side pulled up toward his
abdomen. There may be some
tenderness of the tissues around
the joint. X-ray studies will
show no change in the bones.
About all that can be done is to
keep the child at rest. When

purpose.
Mrs. L.J.M. Ten years ago,
we acquired a fine house that
was really too much for our
means. We have, nevertheless,
managed to hold onto it. to make
improvements and to furnish it
well. We have made many sacri
fices to build and maintain this
home, and it has come to mean
a great deal to me, although it
was my husband who was most
eager to have it in the early
days.
Now that it is in good shape.
with the children grown up, no
longer too much of a strain on
me to manage it, my husband
wants to get rid of it. I feel that
it would be a calamity to do
so.
Ten years ago, I would have
been much happier with a small
and modest home. That would
have enabled me to be interested
in some things outside the house,
and it might have left us some
money for vacations and other
activities. As it is, I have in
vested all my time, energy, and
interest in this home, and we
have deprived ourselves of re
sort vacations and trips because
we had such a fine and costly
home.
Much as I was against It at
the beginning, I now feel very
much attached to this house. I
wont to keep it in the hope that,
even if we cannot afford to keep
it as a family homestead to
which the children can return
and bring their children for
visits, one. of them may some
day be able to live In It.
L.J.M. Perhaps I was too am
bitious at the outset when we
bought this house, but I wanted
to give my children the kind of
home I had dreamed of as a
child. I think the home has serv
ed its purpose, and I think my
wife s present attitude is Im
practical.
The children will have In
terests that will take them away
from us. The boy is in the Army,
the older girl is in college, and
the younger complains that there
is not enough social life in this
community.
We can get a good price now,
and we may find ourselves sell
ing it cheap if we hold on too
long. I'm afraid the house may
separate us from our children,
instead of keeping them closer
to us, since they will feel the"
tug of interests elsewhere.
The Council The husband's
reasoning may be sound, but
he seems premature. The boy
in the Army and the girl in
college may appreciate this home
more than ever because of their
enforced absences. It will be
time enough to decide on selling
the house when they have made
their plans for the future.
As for the real estate market,
there is obviously the element
of gamble in either selling or
holding onto the house. On the
one hand, there has been so
much building that there is some
basis for fearing a decline in
prices. On the other hand, costs
still are rising, the standard of
living seems destined to con
tinue to rise, and the prospect
for a firm real estate market
seems about as strong as the
prospect for a soft market.

Family Escapes Hurts
In Forced Landing
La Puente, Calif. (U.PJ A
young San Diego couple and their
three sons escaped death or ser
ious injury last night when they
made an emergency landing in
their private plane in a vacant
field near here after becoming
lost in a high fog, sheriff's dep
uties reported.
The pilot was identified as
Robert D. Locscher, 32, San
Diego, who told deputies that
after becoming lost in the fog
and since he had a license for
daylight flight only, he landed at
about 7:45 p.m. in the "largest
field" he could find.
With him were his wife, Mary
Louise, and their three sons. No
injuries were reported. ,

said Saturday he is working on
plans for a proposed mile-high
Illinois state office building for
Chicago five times as high as

Wright said the building now
