O'Dell -Gerbing Service Held
At Four Square Gospel Church
The wedding of Miss Sandra
Mae Gerbing to Bill Charles
O'Dell was an event of August
17 at the Four Square church
in Medford. The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman
Gerbing, 2154 Kings highway.
The bridegroom is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. R. O'Dell of Route
2, Medford.
The Rev. R. H. Mathewson of
ficiated at the 8 o'clock double
ring ceremony. The church was
decorated with candelabra hold
ing tapers, ferns, and baskets of
white gladiolus.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a gown
of white lace over satin fashion
ed with pleated net inserts in
the skirt and fitted bodice. Her
fingertip veil was fastened to a
crown of pearls and she carried
a cascade bouquet of white car
nations. Matron of honor was Mrs. Don
Tucker, Central Point, who wore
a dress of light orchid tulle over
satin and carried a cascade bou
quet of pink gladiolus.
Bridesmaids were Miss Bever
ly Rahn and Miss Edith McDon
ald of Central Point. Miss Rahn
wore a dress of yellow satin and
net and carried a crescent bou
quet of orchid gladiolus. Miss
McDonald wore a dress of blue
lace over taffeta and carried a
crescent bouquet of yellow
gladiolus.
Candlelighters were Miss Edna
Gray and Miss Martha Ansted,
both of Eagle Point. Miss Gray
wore mint green while Miss An
sted was in yellow. They wore
wristlets of pink gladiolus.
Don Tucker, Central Point,
was best man. Fred Hay and
Dustin Gerbing, brother of the
; bride, ushered.
Miss Colleen Arthur of White
City played the organ and ac
companied Mrs. Teresa Rafmu
sen who sang.
Following -the ceremony a re
ception was held for the 85 guests
at the Pioneer room of the Jack
son hotel. Orchid and white
gladiolus and candles decorated
the bride's table which held the
white and blue tiered wedding
cake. Miss Eunice Winkels of
Baker, Ore., cut the cake while
Mrs. Tucker presided at the
punch bowl. '
For her daughter's wedding
Mrs. Gerbing wore a beige lace
dress with pink accessories and
pink carnations. Mrs. O'Dell
wore a wine suit with white ac
cessories and white carnations.
The newlyeds are now at home
at 328 North Central, Medford.
Out of town guests included
Mrs. J. Dempsey, aunt of the
bride, and Mrs. Delia Allwen,
cousin of the bride, from Port
land. 1
Olive Rebekah Lodge
To Cancel Meeting
At a meeting of Olive Rebekah
lodge held Monday evening it
was voted not to meet on the first
Monday in September which is
Labor day. The next regular
meeting will be held September
17. An invitation was accepted
from the Kirby Rebekah lodge
for Friendship night September
26. '
Arrangements were made for
birthday cakes for members that
will have birthdays in Septem
ber and October. Mrs. Maud
Stiekle, who will be 92 next
month, will be honored by the
noble grand. Others with birth
days during these two months
will also be honored.
Visitor at the last meeting was
Mrs. Walter McLean of the Gold
Hill Rebekahs.
Refreshments were served by
Mrs. A. H. Gregory, Mrs. Dollie
Love, and Mrs. Inez Lewis. Re
freshments for the next meeting
will be arranged by Mrs. Clar
ence Jordan and her committee.

Cabbage and avocados are on the market now, and these iwo
combine well to make an attractive and interesting salad. For avocado-cabbage
slaw use 3 cups shredded cabbage, 2 tablespoons
slivered green sweet pepper, 2 tablespoons slivered pimiento, 13
cup commercial sour cream, 2 tablespoons vinegar, 1 tablespoon
sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, cayenne pepper, 1 avocado, salad greens
and tomato wedges. Combine cabbage, green pepper and pimiento.
Blend sour cream, vinegar, sal.t sugar and a dash cayenne. Blend
lightly with cabbage mixture, and chill. Just before serving cut
avocado into halves and remove seed and skin. Dice fruit over
cabbage, sprinkle lightly with salt and mix together, lightly. Serve
on salad qreens garnished with slices of avocado and tomato wedge.
Makes 5 or 6 servings.
Philharmonic Guild Gives
Musical Soiree Sunday
About 100 guests of the Philharmonic Society guild attended
a musical soires held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert B. Lowry,
Hilldale orchard off Fern Valley road, last Sunday evening.
The event served as a remind
er to music lovers of the valley
that the annual Philharmonic
concert season is being planned
and that the orchestra and guild
welcome and needs the support
and patronage of everyone in
terested in promoting music in
southern Oregon.
The event opened with a pro
gram of fine music presented
by Richard D. Werner, violin
est and director of the orchestra;
Bruno Pellegrini, pianist and his
assistant; Mrs. Norma Bassett,
Grants Pass, cellist in the or
chestra and the Huot Fishers,
Ashland. Mr. Fisher is a clarin
etist and his wife plays the oboe.
Duet and trio numbers of
Beethoven, Wagner and Mil
haud were played, with the mu
sicians performing from a spot
on the large porch while chairs
were arranged on the terrace
for guests.
Mrs. Tom Popham, president
of the Philharmonic Society
guild, introduced the musicians
and Mr. Werner spoke inform
ally concerning the selections.
After the program Mrs. Harold
B. Cook of the guild explained
that the informal organization,
formed to aid and support the
Philharmonic orchestra, finds
it necessary to become a more
formal organization. A corpora
tion is to be formed, and offic
ers will be elected.
In the meantime plans go on
for four concerts during the
1956-57 season, and season tick
ets are already on sale at Pu
rucker's Piano house and the
Music Mart.
Refreshments followed the
program. Pouring were Mrs.
Royal E. Bebb, Mrs. William
McAllister and Mrs. Bert Low
ry Jr. Guild members assisted
in serving.
The beginning of the violent
storm which rocked the valley
Sunday evening provided an in
teresting accompaniment to the
musical program, but fortunate
ly did not force guests indoors
until the refreshment hour.
Club Makes Plans for
Picnic on Wednesday
Townsend club has planned a
picnic for Wednesday, August
29, at Hawthorne Park. A cov
ered dish luncheon will be
served at 12 noon.
All members are requested to
take their table service. Coffee
will be furnished.
Visitors and guests are always
welcome to attend the social
gatherings of the club held on
fifth Wednesdays.
At last week's club meeting,
David Wilson, Central Point,
was guest chairman, and C. E.
Naffziger read the Washington
D. C. flash bulletin.
The meeting closed with en
tertainment and talks by mem
bers of the group.

sicle trays inserting the sticks
as usual. Make some extras to
wrap in foil or sandwich bags
and store in your freezer.
New Members
Are Welcomed

Two new members were wel
comed into Sojourners' club at
a meeting Thursday at Pythian
halL They are Mrs. A. J. Castillo
and Mrs Frank Stratton.
Two prospective members,
Mrs. John L. Holmes and Mrs.
Vincent Nicoletti, and a guest
Mrs. J. R. Gessler of Portland,
also attended.
Refreshments were served by
the hostesses, Mrs. William Hir
sehy and Mrs. Duane Zaback.
A special award was given to
Mrs. George F. Wilson.
During the business meeting
plans were made for a "white
elephant" sale at the next meet
ing of the club September 13.
Mrs. Meredith Parsons will be
in charge of the sale and each
member is asked to bring a white
elephant attractively wrapped.
Plans were also made for a
guest day when members of
Klamath Falls Sojourners' club
and local guests will be enter
tained September 27 at a lunch
eon at Mon Desir restaurant.
The remainder of the after
noon was spent playing cards.
Bridge prizes went to Mrs.
Holmes and Mrs. Castillo, pi
nochle prizes to Mrs. Floyd Rob
ertson and Mrs. Gerald von Ting,
and canasta prizes to Mrs. Ruby
Wright and Mrs. Lawrence Mc
Connell. j

vicinity who have lived here less

come members.
