Colorful Surroundings
Pay OH for Workers
Philadelphia (U.R) An in
surance company-claims it is get
ling better performance from its
office workers by providing a
colorful atmosphere for them to
work in.
An experiment with colors
was put into operation here at
the Pennsylvania Lumbermens
Mutual Insurance Co., and offi
cials are pleased with the re
sults. One room had 38 colors
blended to provide an atmos
phere conducive to work.
PLM President Fred H. Lud
wig said the "hue-thenics" was
working perfectly, with some
personnel sayirg: "Why, we're
going home refreshed."
Visiting businessmen invited
to view the colorful rooms also
came away impressed. "Some
who are planning alterations
aid they would give, serious
consideration to the use of color
dynamics in their offices and
plants," Ludwig said.

Am asked if I like "Italian
cooking." that depends upon
what type of Italian cooking it
is. The cooking varies consider
ably in different parts of Italy.
For example, in Northern Italy
the cooking is done with butter.
In Southern Italy olive oil is
used. I prefer the Northern
Italian cuisine. One of my fav
orities is veal cutlet villa mil
anese. Delicious!

Secretaries:
Glancing through the good old
classified I noted an advertise
ment for a male secretary for
an executive. Salary offered was
$110 a week. This was in Man
hattan. Male secretaries are paid
from $10 to $30 a week more
than women occupying a similar
position. But I don't know why.
I think it is a position best
handled by women.
Asking
Queries from clients. Q. What
was the exact wording of the
rule by which John B. Kelly
(father of Grace), then a brick
layer, was barred from particp
ating in England's Henley' Re
gatta? A. The rule was as fol
lows: "No person shall be con
sidered an amateur oarsman,
sculler, or coxswain who is. or
has been by trade, or employ
ment for wages, a mechanic,
artisan or laborer engaged in
any manual duty." Q. Who first
said, "I'm from Missouri; you've
got to show me"? A. W. D.
Vandliver, represenative from
Missouri in Congress. He made
the remark during a speech in
the House of Representatives.
Streamlining
How does your wife look in a
bathing suit? How about you?
There has been a marked im
provement in the swim suit ap
pearance of the average female.
On the other hand, the number
of men buldging in the wrong'
places seems on the increase.
Have you noticed your wife
gazing admiringly at a life
guard or some other example of
a well streamlined fellow? That's
a danger sign. You better go on
a diet.
Horses and Women
An extremely effective way,
to win the affectionate regard of
a beautiful female is to compli
ment her on her intelligence and
her sense of humor. Also to en
gage her in conversation as to
current events, literature, music,
the drama, etc. There is nothing
that pleases a physically attrac
tive woman more than to tell
her that she combines brains
with her beauty. That is the
technique Arthur Miller used to
win Marilyn Monroe. It never
fails.
Please Note
How old was your mother
when she was born? It has been
! said the older the mother at
the time of the birth the better
chances of the child developing
into a clever adult. Anyway,
Diana Dors was born when her
mother was 42. Also Diana was
the first and only child of her
parents who had been married
13 years when she was born.
PEP PILLS
How are the typists doing at
your office? Are they up to the
mark on production? In London
now, so-called "pep pills" are
being widely used. They are re
ported to have the effect of in
creasing the daily output of a
typist by 2C per cent. When
executives take a few pep yills
they are said to be able to work
15 hours a day without becom
ing fatigued. The pills have been
pronounced "harmless" by men
of medicine, are not habit form
ing and, in Britain can be pur
chased without the prescription.
Your druggist probably knows
about these pills. So if your
typist is not on the beam pro
ductively you better try giving
her a few pep pills.
Sweater Girls
From the artistic viewpoint
the "sweater girl" figure is
somewhat removed from per
fection. Baron Joseph Dolronyl,
the Hungarian sculptor who rec
ently completed a statue of
Anita Ekbery, observed, "Anita
has a very sculptable body
super feminine with soft lines.
Of course, she is a little ab
normal in the bust and her hips
are a little too broad."
Although half the library
buildings in Germany were des
troyed during World War II,
there is today more reference
material in the country than ever
before.
