In spite of every effort to hold
down the number of germs in the

infant rooms in hospitals, many
infants get into trouble, and epi
demics start up which are hard
to stop. Sometimes a baby comes
down with diarrhea or impetigo
soon after reaching home.
Today, the hospital pediatri
cians can usually stop an out
break of either disease by giving
both the infected child and the
other children in the hospital a
dose of one of the newer anti
biotics. Unfortunately, the old
penicillin sometimes fails to do
the job.
Multiple Sclerosis
Many unhappy persons want
to know if there is any definite
or always dependable treatment
for multiple sclerosis, and I have
to say that officers of the nation
al Multiple Sclerosis Society (279
Park ave., Suite 7G, New York,
17) say they know of none. Un
fortunately, as yet, no one knows
what produces the disease.
In this trouble the lining or in
sulation that surrounds most of
nerves of the body is eaten into
here and there, and as a result,
some nerves occasionally do not
work well. The patient may be

er to marry again.
Mrs. B. R. I lost my hus
band three months ago in an
accident. I have two married
children and a grown- up son
who is still unmarried. All of
them have united to persuade
me that my son, who refused to
live at home while my husband
was alive, should now live with
me. I do not like the idea.
They argue that I would be
lonesome at home alone and
have to go out to work in order
to fill my time and support my
self. This is exactly what I
would like to do.
I do not hold it against my
son that he preferred to live
away from home until now, al
though I felt that things would
have been easier for us financi
ally if our son had lived at
home. Now, however, I feel
young enough to be able to go
out and earn my own living. I
used to find it a little irksome
at times because I had too little
to do at home, but at least I
was not then an object of char-
ty or a burden, i
Stanley My mother does
not seem to understand. I have
really missed living with my
parents, but I found it was the
best way to keep out of unhappy I
arguments with my father. I
don't want to give her charity;
I need her companionship.
If we maintain a home to
gether, we will have a place to j
which to invite my sisters and
their families and we -will have
a close family circle, something '
I have always missed. If my mo
ther goes out to work, we will
all be lonely and she'll probablv
wind up marrying a man out of
loneliness, and will then have
both to take care of him and go
out to work.
The Council: Stanley is more
the problem in this family than
his mother, who seems to have
a healthy enough attitude about
her future. Stanley should really
be taken in hand.
Stanley could not get along
with his father and he fears that I
his mother may marry again, j
No doubt, that is a possibility,
but it is hardly right that Stan- j I
ley should assume that if his mo
ther married again, she would j
make a bad match. His emotions I
have quite evidently been hurt
and badly mixed up somewhere
along the line.
Mrs. B. R. should not be in
the position of rejecting her son
but neither should she step into
situation now where Stanley
would rule out marriage for
himself as well as his mother.
If they are. to have a home to
gether, it should be clearly un
derstood that Mrs. B. R. may go
out to work. If necessary, they
should employ help in caring

were to drift into the position
of being her son's excuse for
not facing up to his own life.
