Governor, Wife
Guests at Parties
Governor and Mrs. Elmo Smith
were honored at several events
during a two-day visit to the
valley last week.
They attended a dinner at
Rogue Valley Country club Tues
day night for Republicans, and
Wednesday noon were present
for a luncheon at Omar's restau
rant in Ashland.
Wednesday morning a small
group was invited to the home
of Mrs. Carl E. Wimberly Jr.,
on Barneburg road to meet Mrs.
Smith during breakfast, and she
ti.en went to Ashland for a cof
fee hour at the home of Mrs.
James H. Busch. Mrs. Busch was
assisted by Mrs. Ben Lombard.
The governor's wife was also
honored at a tea given at the
Women's Civic clubhouse in Ash
land. Mrs. Philip Stansbury was
chairman for this, and about 80
Medford and Ashland women
met the honored guest during
the party.
Later Wednesday afternoon
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Selby were
hosts for a cocktail hour at their
home on Walker avenue, invit
ing a large group of Ashland
business and professional men
and their wives to meet Governor
and Mrs. Smith.
The Smiths were among the
honored guests who attended the
dinner and opening night festivi
ties of the Oregon Shakespearean
festival in Lithia park and the
festival theater Wednesday night
They left for Salem Wednesday
morning.
Roseburg Couple
To Wed Sunday
The wedding of Miss Loretta
Weseman to William H. Sims is
set for Sunday, August 12, in
the Roseburg Presbyterian
church. Miss Weseman is a
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
George Weseman of Roseburg,
and Mr. Sims, is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. Herbert Sims, 47
North Peach street, Medford.
The Wesemans, their daugh
ter and Mr. Sims were in Med
ford last Sunday to spend the
day with the Sims here.

Chapman-McDonald Rites
Held in Methodist Church
An event of July 28 was the wedding of Miss Jeanette McDon
ald to Norman Chapman, the rites being held at First Methodist
church in Medford. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex
McDonald, 146 South Mountain avenue, Ashland, and the bride
groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. R. V. Chapman, 343 Mae street,
Medford.
Dr. Raymond Z. Balcomb
read the double-ring ceremony,
and Mr. McDonald gave his
daughter in marriage. Mrs. R. A
Schuchard was at the organ and
the bride's uncle. William
Kershner. Seattle, sang.
The altar candelabra held
white tapers and baskets of
white gladiolus and lavender
Ester Reed daisies decorated the

candles.
For the ceremony the bride
wore a gown of white nylon
tulle with bodice of delustered
satin embroidered in lace and
pearls. The skirt ended in a
chapel length train. Her finger
tip illusion veil was held by a
crown of lace and peaYls and she
carried a white orchid with
stephanotis and bouvardia. ,
Mrs. Harry Berryman, aunt of
the bride from Seattle, was
honor attendant. Bridesmaids
and matrons were Miss Sue
Thorpe, Mrs. Charles Bonds and
Mrs. Robert Myrick, Ashland,
and Miss Gail Ashley, Eugene,
sorority sister of the bride. Deb
bie and Diane Slapnicka, cous
ins of the bride from Seattle,
were flower girls.
Mrs. Berryman wore a waltz
length gown of lavender nylon
designed princess style and her
head covering was a short
matching veil. She carried white
spider chrysanthemums. The oth
er attendants wore frocks of
white nylon which matched Mrs.
Berryman's gown in design, and
white veils. Their bouquets
were also chrysanthemums. The
candlelighters' pink frocks
matched those worn by the
bridesmaids and their head
dresses were of white carna
tions. Best man was Donald Chap
man, brother of the bridegroom
and ushers were Burton Wil
liams, Salem. Joe Antony, Jack
Moad and Curt Holzgang, all
Medford.
The reception which followed
was in the church parlors. Mrs.
Eldon Slapnicka. aunt of the
bride from Seattle and Mrs.
Garold Davis, Ashland, cut the
wedding cake. Mrs. William
Hubbs. another aunt of the bride
from Seattle, and Mrs. Morris
Stringer, Ashland, poured
punch. Miss Sylvia Kain, Med
ford, sorority sister of the bride,
took charge of the guest book.
Mr. and Mrs. Chapman made
a trip to northern Oregon
beaches for their honeymoon
and will be at home at 1829 Uni
versity street, Eugene, after
August 6. For traveling the
bride wore a white sheath dress
with checked coat of navy blue
and while and the orchid from
her bouquet.
The bride was graduated from
Ashland High school and has
been attending Oregon State col
lege where she is affiliated with
Delta Delta Delta sorority Mr.
Chapman! a graduate of Med
ford High school, attends the
University of Oregon. He play
ed football for Medford High
school and is also on the uni
versity team.

mony held May 20 at 2:30 p.m.
in the Bethany Presbyterian
church, Council Bluffs. Iowa.
The Rev. Claire J. Brown offi
ciated at the single ring service
performed before 20 friends and
relatives of the couple.
The bride had as her attend
ant Miss Deann McLaughlin
who wore a pale blue linen
dress with white accessories.
She carried pink rosebuds.
The bride, given in marriage
by Gayle Swanke, wore a dress
of brown linen trimmed in
white with white accessories.
She carried yellow roses.
Best man was Robert J. Carr.
The church was decorated
with baskets of pink and white
carnations. Following the cere
mony a dinner was held in
Omaha, Neb., for the couple
and their guests.
The newlyweds made a wed
ding trip to Buffalo. For her
traveling attire the bride wore
a pastel blue wool suit with
white accessories. They are now
at home a 2300 Fort Crook
road. Bellevue, Neb.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Milliron
are airmen in the" United States
Air Force, the bride being an
airman third class and her hus
band an airman second class.
They are both stationed at Of
futt AFB, Omaha, where they
are communication operators.
The bride attended Grants Pass
and Central Point schools.
Episcopal Women
Hold Bridge Tea
A benefit bridge tea was held
August 1 at Black Oaks spon
sored by St. Elizabeth's Guild
of St. Mark's Episcopal church
with more than 175 guests at
tending. Punch was served the guests
during the bridge session fol
lowed by coffee, sandwiches
and cookies.
General chairman for the
event was Mrs. John Bunker as
sisted by Mrs. G. R. Owens, Mrs.
G. K. Ringo, Mrs. Francis Olds
and Mrs. H. P. Bosworth Jr.
Those who poured were Mrs.
Stanley Philips, Mrs. Allan F.
Perry, Mrs. G. K. Ringo, and
Mrs. Robert Greene, wife of the
vicar of the Church of the Good
Shepherd at Prospect.
Mrs. Royal E. Bebb directed
the girls who served. They in
cluded Miss Margaret Selby,
Miss Karalee Selby, Miss Sue
Reichstein, and Miss Shirley
Stafford.
Prizes were awarded Mrs.
James Stevens. Mrs. L. P. Older,
Mrs. Budd Gail, Mrs. Frank
Pence and Mrs. A. Z. Dean.

Monday at 7 p:m. at the home

is president of the chapter,
newly reorganized here.
Jacksonville High school with
the 1956 class and the bride
groom was graduated from the
same school in 1952.
Also among the wedding guests
were the bridegroom's brother,
Wayne Misener, and his sister.

Lee Wicksten, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Leonard Wicksten of
Jacksonville, became the bride
of Robert C. Misener in a cere
mony held July 21 in Jackson
ville Presbyterian church. The
bridegroom, a son of Mrs. Thel
ma Misener, Anaheim, Calif., is
an airman first class in the
United States Air Force.
About 100 guests attended the
wedding. The Rev. N. K. Tully
officiated at the double-ring
rites, held at eight o'clock in
the evening.
The bride, whose father es
corted her to the altar, wore a
gown of white lace over taffeta
designed ballerina length and a
waist-length veil held by a
pearl headdress. She carried a
white orchid with stephanotis.
Mrs. Richard Souza Jr., was
matron-of-honor for her sister.
Her frock of pink and white net
over taffeta was also ballerina
length and she carried a nose
gay of white daisies and pink
carnations.
Mary Jane Haas of Anaheim,
Calif., niece of the bridegroom,
was flower girl and Miss Pris
cilla Graham lighted the can
dles, .
Dick Sanford served as best
man for the bridegroom and
ushers were Harvey Hueners
and Richard Souza Jr.
Miss Clara May Anderson
played the wedding music and
Miss Pat Moore was vocalist.

party.
A reception was held in the
church parlors. Miss Jean Mis

the plane to New York where
Mr. Misener is assigned to
USAF duty at Mitchell Air
Force base. Their home will be
on Long Island.
