Disney is wrapping up a com
pletely new book lor "Disney-

real expedi

South Pole to
a new adven
ture character
to replace
Davy Crock-
AUne Mo.br ett.
Following Davy was a prob
lem, but Disney thinks he has
another hit in a new series called
"Johnny Tremaine." The genial
cartoon king who's become one
of TV's top producers now is
testing teenage boys in a talent
search for an actor to portray
Johnny.
The new character, unlike
Crockett, is pure fiction. But his
adventures will be historical.
Johnny is an apprentice silver
smith in Revolutionary War days
who joins the Sons of Liberty
and becomes involved in Paul
Revere s ride and the Boston Dea
Party.
Two Hour Shows Set
Disney is spending $700,000
for two hour-long shows on
Johnny with the hope that tri
corner hats will replace coonskin
caps with the small fry.
"The trouble was Davy set
such a pace that first year,"
sighed Disney. "People say,
what's the matter, no new
Crockett? I've gone through this
before. After,-The Three Little
Pig' and 'Snow White' every
thing I made was compared to
them. I got so I hated 'Snow
White'."
In addition to Johnny Tre
maine, "Disneyland" will feature
a series called "Operation Deep
Freeze" showing an expedition
currently at the South Pole. Dis-

Sales $25,024,063
Portland (U.R) Virgil T.
Heath, Oregon State Supervisor,
said yesterday that timber sales
from O & C and Coos Bay Wagon
road lands under the supervi
sion of the Bureau of Land man
agement amounted to $25,024,
063 in fiscal 1956.
The volume totaled 864,835,
000 board feet in 947 sales dur
ing the year. This represents an
increase of S6.683.466 value over
1955 sales when the volume was
644.729,000 board feet.
Heath said the average price
per thousand board feet in
creased from S28.45 in fiscal
year 1955 to $37.64 in fiscal
1956.
The Coos Bay district ac
counted for the greatest volume
of timber. 149,453,000 board
feet, but the Roseburg district,
where 138.986,000 board feet was
sold, accounted for the highest
total value, $5,389,000.
Of the total timber sold from
these lands there were 337 sales
of salvage timber with a volume
of 228.384.000 board feet and a
value of $8,795,837. The Eugene
and Coos Bay districts alone of
the five marketing areas ac
counted for S5.893.216 of the
total salvage sales. Heath said
the 27.993.000 board feet valued
at $792,942 was sold from Ore
gon public domain lands under
the supervision of the Bureau of
Land Management.

cameramen have been frozen in
since March. More film will be
flown to Hollywood in early Oc
tober in time for the TV season.
Geophysics Recognised
"The year 1957 has been des
ianated around the world as
Geophysical Year,' so this show
will fit that theme," Disney ex
plained. "We'll also have a car
toon series called 'Our Friend,
The Atom.' on the potentials of
atomic energy for peacetime
use.
In addition, he'll continue his
daily program, "The Mickey
Mouse Club."
"You've always got to give
them something exciting," he
concluded. "You've got to keep
swinging, and try different
things."
