stunt man is one of the many stars of the "tournament of
thrills'' show slated for Thursday night. 8 p.m.. at the Sheriff's
Posse grounds here. More than twenty other spectacular events
make up the two-hour show. It will visit Medford for a one
night stand as part of a nationwide tour. The Junior Chamber
of Commerce announced that refreshments will be available
at a concession booth on the grounds.

In winning it Tuesday, the
curly-haired. 32- ear-old Burke
became the second man in his
tory ever lo win the Masters
and PGA tournaments two of
the most prized titles in golf
in the same year. Only Sam
Snead who was eliminated in
the PGA quarter-finals by Kroll
on Sunday ever did it before
back in 1939.
Burke, one of the greatest
putters in the game, had to
come from behind to beat the
37-year-old Kroll, just as he
had to fight back to whip Ed
Furgol, the 1954 U.S. Open
champion, in the semi-finals on
Monday. Against Furgol he
fought back from being five
down to win out. 1 up in 37
holes.
Came From Behind
Against Kroll. he came from a
three-down deficit because his
putting failed him for the first
19 holes, as he missed five putts
from fic feet or less one of
them from 13 inches.
But then he got his putter
back on good behavior and fired
five birdies at Kroll in six holes
lo take command.
'T was trying to get Ted 2-up,"
Jackie said. "For I figured if I
could do that I could match him
the rest of the way."
And Burke, a Marine sergeant
in World War II. did just that.
Once he gained his 2-up lead on
the 27th hole, he matched Kroll,
who was an Army sergeant in
that war. stroke for stroke for
seven holes before he closed him
out 3 and 2 on the 34th green
It was fitting that Burke's vic
tory came on a par three hole
for those short ones had been
his dish throughout the five-day
tournament.
Birdies On 4th
On one of them, the 190-yard
fourth, he carded five birdies
and two pars in the seven rounds
of match play it took him to win !
his second major title of the ;
year.
That string of birdies on the
afternoon nine put Burke out in
four under par 32 and when he
closed it out he maintained that
edge over regulation figures, be
ing four under par for 34 holes.
Kroll didn't crack. Trying for
his first major tournament tri
umph after 10 years on the pro
trail, he just ran out of gas. the
same as he did at Rochester,
N.Y., last month in the U.S.
Open. In that one. he had lo fin
ish in even par for the last three
holes to heat out Carry Middle
coff. but he triple-bogicd the
16th to blow his chance.
He didn't triple-bogie Tuesday
but he just couldn't match those
Burke birdies.
Burke, who said he was driv
ing the best he ever has, still
leaned to his putter as the chip
which did the trick. On his
birdie string, lie sank putts oi
18. eight, seven, four and two
feet.
"That putter told tlie story."
said Jackie. "Rut my chipping
