The Gold Hill Grange held its
regular meeting Thursday July

in the park at Grants Pass, the
date to be announced later.
The lecture hour was spent
in jroup singing and discussion
wi the community project, that
the Grange is sponsoring.
The dances held at the Grange
hall, every Saturday night are
proving to be quite a success.

gated a report that two Ameri
can soldiers raped the IR-year-old
German wife of a U. S. serv
iceman. Mrs. Irmgard McGaha told
German police she was assaulted
Saturday while walking in the
woods near suburban Schleiss
heim. She said she was carrying
her two-weeks-old baby when she
was accosted hy two soldiers
who attacked her.
German police reported the
case to U.S. military authorities.
U.S. officials said the girl's
husband has heen transferred to
the United States. They refused
to give his full name and ad
dress. A long series of incidents in
volving U. S. servicemen recent
ly brought demands from Ger
man authorities for stricter con
trol of troops.

Drowning Was Real

couple explained today that they
laughed while he drowned be
cause he always "kidded a lot"
and they thought he was
"joking."

other couple were swimming at
the Paris Landing State Park
Sunday when Balthrop began
crying for help, they said. By the
time they realized his trouble
was real, they said, it was too
late to reach him. A rescue squad

4-H Club News
Ruch Livestock
A few members of the Ruch
livestock club may show their
animals at Josephine county fair
in two weeks. This was discussed
at a meeting at Jerome Peter
son's in Medford last week, and
it was decided not to enter stock
in the Jacksonville Jubilee on
account of the hot weather.
Jerome is a senior member in
electricity and gave the live
stock members a fine demon
stration. They enjoyed the re
freshments he had prepared him
self. The club is proud of Mar y
Anne Barker's calf showmanship
at the Sis-Q 4-H fair recently.
She is nine years old, and is
raising a pig. But there was not
a pig for her to take in the ring,
so she took a calf and took first
place. She received a pail.
She also led a Holstein cow,
but the cow did not want to be
have and started running. Mary
Anne didn't let go, so the judge
gave her a curry comb for trying
so hard. She is the only one
from this club to go to 4-H sum
mer camp at Lake of the Woods
this month.
The next meeting will be at
Shirley and Noel Dunlaps. The
date has not been set. The Ruch
Applegate fair will be at Apple
gate Aug. 3 and everyone in the
community is invited.
