The Council Evelyn made an
initial mistake in deciding to
make her home permanently
with her in-laws after her hus
band's death. She should have
maintained close relations with
them, but should have made it
clear she would have her own
home as soon as circumstances
permitted.
The invitation to the suitor to
join the family of the in-laws
may be entirely sincere, but it is
rather preposterous. The future
marriage would have a better
prospect if Evelyn were already
maintaining her own home. As
long as the boy is cared by the
grandmother, this man will nev
er find out whether he is reallv
willing to become the bov's
father.
The present setting is simnlv

her own son. Such a course
would serve better to earn her
continued gratitude and to keep
close ties with the grandson than
any bitterly controversial atti

either prevent the marriage
from taking place or probably
doom it to failure. In either case,
all concerned would be hurt, the

Eugene :U.R' Circuit Judge
William Fort has ruled that fraud
was connected with the signing ;
of waivers to a Eugene woman's i
estate, reportedly valued at I
S100.000. j
The judge made the ruling in !
a suit brought against Edward
J. Phillips. Eugene electrical con
tractor, by three persons who
thought for many years that
Phillips was their father.
The three sued Phillips, charg
ing that he fraudently persuaded
them to sign waivers to their
rights to the estate of their late
mother, C o r r i n e I. Phillips
Wilske.
They grew up thinking they
were Phillips' children, but dis
covered that their real father
was Carl F. Wilske of Illinois.
During the trial. Wilske had

her. The children claimed that
after their mother's death, Phil
lips had them sign a paper that
later turned out to be a waiver
of their rights to the estate.
