Former Oregon Man
Found Decapitated
San Bernardino, Calif. (U.R)
The decapitated body of a 40-year-old
junk and salvage man
was found yesterday on the
Santa Fe railroad tracks near
Redlands.
The coroner said the victim,
Lewis E. Ford, apparently was
hit by a westbound freight. He
lived in a hut next to the tracks.
A clipping found in his wallet
indicated Ford was a former
resident of Willamina. Ore.
Berkeley. Calif. (U.R) The
private library of a former Uni
versity of California regent,
James K. Moffitt. presented to
the university in June, contains
5.000 volumes valued at more
than S75.000. The first dated edi
tion of Horace, printed in Milan,
Italy, in 1474, the only known
copy in the United States, is
among 225 books printed in the
13th century in the collection.
