Dienst, the only one of tiie
two who speaks English, said he
thinks his single-masted sloop.
Gruriori is the second smallest
ever to cross the Atlantic. He
said a somewhat smaller vessel
was pointed out to him at .Nas
sau as having been used by a
woman to cross the ocean.

lout that despite its smallness.

for oceanic travel.
"A small boat that is built for
hish and Touch seas is safer than ;
a big boat not built built for

is a small boat but very sturdy ;

thunderstorms, none severe.
Worried that they might lose

copper-lined, water-tight cockpit

a sextant and a chronometer to

cooperative.
"Frequently in tiie mornings
we would liiid living fish on the
d"ck.' lie said. ' The fish would
hit agauist tiie mainsail during
tiie night and fall to the deck."
They also carried canned
meats and vegetables and a sup
ply of fresh lemons and pota
toes. Tiie Grudon's small auxiliary
engine was used only a total of
nmr hours during tne entire
trip. Dienst said, two hours out
of Las Palmas and two hours
cuming into Miami.
The men wont have much
time to enjoy their American
vacation. Dienst said he re
ceived word in Nassau that he is
wauled a! his office as soon
as po.-siui,. Pokoniy plans a
more leisurely return to Ger
many via steamer after selling
the Grudon here.

j bulbar polio in a 15-year-old boy
from Malheur county, scene of
! Oregon's worst polio epidemic

the State Board of Health.
Another case of bulbar polio
was reported in a seven-year-old
boy living just across the Snake
river in Idaho. Both cases were
diagnosed by N'yssa physicians.
Bulbar is the most severe type
of polio, involving paralysis of
the respiratory system.
; Dr. Harold M. Erickson. state
health officer, said that neither
child had received protective
shots of Salk polio vaccine.
The new report brings Ore
' eon's total number of polio cases
this year to 42. well below the
j comparable period a year ago.
i Polio normally reaches its peak
in Oregon during September and
I October.
j Dr. Erickson said that the !wo
cases ot buloar polio in unvac
cinated children emphasizes the
need for immediat" shots for all
eligible persons "if Oregon ex
pects to materially reduce the
toll from paralytic polio this
year."
He said Oregon now has "ade
quate supplies" of commercial
v accine to meet present demand.
