Charge Wrong Prentice Ken
neth Cox. 30, Wichita Falls. Tex.,
was taken to Multnomah county
Monday to begin a one-year sen
tence there for a charge of lewd
cohabitation. In a previous ar
ticle, the charge was erroneously
listed as rape. District Attorney
Walter Nunlcy said Cox was
taken to Multnomah county to
serve his sentence, rather than
the Jackson county jail, because
facilities are better there for
long-term confinements.

Grass Burned Firemen re
sponded to a reported grass fire
about 9:30 a.m. today and found
that two men were burning a lot
next to the house at 227 North
Berkeley Way. Another grass
fire occurred abuot 4:40 a.m.
yesterday in the 500 block on
South Peach st.. firemen stated.
They reported no damage from
either fire. A car fire in the 300
block on North Bartlett st.,
about 3:45 p.m., yesterday was
extinguished before firemen ar
rived. They said gasoline in the
carburetor ignited. The car was
owned by Jesse Barnacascel,
Yreka. Calif.

Motorists Warned
Of 'Summer Ice'
Salem (U.R) Traffic safety
officials today warned motorists
to beware of ''summer ice" on
Oregon highways.
The officials explained that
"summer ice" is caused when
rain mixes with accumulated oil
and dirt after a hot day, causing
the highway to become extreme
ly slippery.
Danger is heightened because
the road does not look hazardous
and a driver may hit his brakes
only to find his car sliding all
over the road.

Mrs. Lila Viola Warren. 65. resi
dent of Ashland for- 33 years,
were held Tuesday in Litwiller's
Mountain View chapel. Ashland.
Mrs. Warron died Sundav in
Klamath Falls. She was born
Sept. 20. 1801. at Indanola. Iowa
She was a member of the Baptist
church there. In Ashland she
was active in several organiza
tions, including the Gold Star
Mothers. Navy Mothers and
Royal Neighbors.
Survivors include three
daughters, Mrs. Frances D. Wan
dell. Klamath Falls. Mrs. Merritt
Paris, Newton, Iowa, Mrs. Ila
Bess Chapman, Prospect: three
sons, Leonard Warren, Central
Point; Charles Warren, Oroville,
Calif., and Ardis Warren, Ash
land; two sisters, Mrs. Bess Bel
lows. Ashland, and Mrs. Bethyl
Dory. Hanford. Calif.: and i8
grandchilren. Two of Mrs. War
ren's sons. Dean and Donald
Warren, were killed in World
War II. Her husband, Frank
Warren, died Feb. 7, 1954.
