riage. R. T. I'm a sick man and
need help.
Mm. R. T. My husband and
my son are rapidly falling into
a bitter feud over the boy's
desire to eet married. I find my
self in the most painful posi
tion. Our boy is 22 and has just
returned from service in the
Army, He met a girl a few
months azo and insists that he
loves her and wants to marry
her at once. My husband argues
that he has no right to marry
so soon, and threatens to stay
away from the wedding and
break with him permanently if
he goes through with it.
I have tried to reason with
both of them, and find them
both turning on me.
John My father says I have
no right to marry untii I am 25. I
This means that I would have to
wait nearly three years. I have

ice, and I can't seem to fit into
life with my family again. I
have known Doris only for a
few months, it is true, but I feel
very much at home with her
and I know we will be happy
together. If Doris had a good
home life. I might be willing to
wait a little longer just to ap
pease my father, but the fact
is that life is quite intolerable
for her. She feels she must leave
her family whether or not we
get married now, and I am very
much afraid she may not wait
for me as long as my father
suggests.
R. T. John Is the oldest of
! four children. The youngest is
;a boy of 16 and the two in be-
tween are girls. I have a weak
heart, and I am afraid of leav
i ing a helpless family. That is
j why I want John to wait with
i his marriage, at least until one
I of his sisters is either married
j or able to help the family.
Even my wife, who knows of
my condition, seems to lack
j sympathy for my position.

imply that the children do not
know. This is wrong. John can
not be blamed for his impa
tience, since he has not been in
formed of his father's thinking.
The 16-year-old brother may
be too young to be informed, as
the information may upset his
sense of security, but certainly
John and the elder of the sisters
should know the cause of the
father's anxiety. It certainly is
not unreasonable for the father
to provide a little hedge of secu
rity for his family be postpon
ing John's wedding, but to John
the proposal seems cruelly ar
bitrary. It is quite possible that a
practical solution could be
worked out if the parents, the
two elder children and the
fiancee were to discuss the prob
lem frankly. Perhaps there
would be a compromise agree
ment to delay the marriage, or
perhaps John and his wife could
see their way clear to making
a regular contribution to a fam
ily fund in order to make the
father feel less uneasy about the
future.

tric organ which was played by
Mrs. Evelyn Reed. Mrs. Donn V.
Piatt and Mrs. Orin G. Barth

bail, horseshoes and swimming
events were held throughout the
afternoon.

cific Telephone and Telegraph
company to sell S78. 000,000 in
:i2-year debenture bonds and to
issue 1.562.267 shares of S100
par value common stock.
The company said it planned
to sell the debentures at com
petitive bids. The common stock
will be offered to present stock
holders on the basis of one share
for each six preferred or com
mon shares outstanding in the
name of each shareholder at a
date to be fixed by the company.
Total proceeds of the sale
should run to S234.226.700, com
pany officials said. They added
that the money would be used
to improve and extend tele
phone facilities.
