Mr. and Mrs. Kay Lindell Kelley
Medford Churc h Setting
For Abbot-Kelley Rites
The First Presbyterian church
Medford, was the setting Friday
July 6, when Miss Lucile Abbott
became the bride of Kay Lin
dell Kelley. The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. El
wood Abbott of Sams Valley.
Mr. Kelley is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Glenn Kelley of Central
Point.
Dr. 0. Kirtland West solemn
ized the 8 pjn. double ring cere
mony which was attended by
more than 200 guests. White
gladiolus, colored Ester Reed
daisies and candelabra decorat
ed the church.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a floor
length gown of imported white
Chantilly lace over satin with
fitted bodice. Her veil was held
by a band of seed pearls and
lace. She carried a cascade of
white glamellias and pink car
nations. Miss Virginia Dew was maid
of honor. Other attendents were
Miss Vera Abbott, sister of the
bride from Riverside, Calif., and
Miss Veriety Day of Salem. They
wore gowns of pastel colored
silk crystalline with matching
head bands and carried cascades
of Ester Reed daisies.
The flower girl was Miss Sher
rie Botsford, cousin of the bride.
The ring bearer was Pat Kelley,
cousin of the bridegroom. Miss
Sue Kelley, sister of the bride
groom, and Miss Janice Camp
bell, cousin of the bridegroom,
lighted the candles. They wore
dresses of crystalline in pastel
shades.
Howard Morris was best man.
Randall Campbell, cousin of the
bridegroom, and Vera Parent,
ushered.
At the reception which fol
lowed the ceremony, Mrs. Ralph
Koger and Mrs. Paul Schulz,
aunts of the bride, served the
wedding cake. Mrs. Lindsay
Houston, aunt of the bride, and
Mrs. Jim Dawson, cousin of the
bride poured. Miss Billie Conner
was in charge of the guest book.
At the gift table were Miss Kay
Askwith and Miss Sandra Guss.
For her daughter's wedding
Mrs. Abbott chose a dusty rose
silk crepe dress with white ac
cessories. Mrs. Kelley wore an
imported cotton sheath dress
with cotton lace duster. Her ac
cessories were aquamarine and
tan. Their corsages were of pink
roses.
Out of town guests included
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Kelley,
Sacramento and Mrs. Herb Kurts
and two sons, Mike and Garry
of Quincy, Calif.
After a wedding trip up the
coast, the couple are at home
at 1557 Stewart avenue, Med
ford.
The bride, a graduate of Crater
High school, is employed at the
First National Bank in Central
City. The bridegroom, a graduate
of Crater. High school, attends
Linfield college.

Joyceffes To Hear
Dr. Messenger
Dr. Loren E. Messenger, South
ern Oregon college, will speak
on "Love and Marriage" at a
meeting of the Medford Jay
cettes Wednesday.
The members will meet at the
home of Mrs. Donald Carlon, 106
Elm st., at 8 p.m.
Co-hostesses will be Mrs.
William Romback and Mrs.
Leonard Howe. Members are
asked to bring magazines for
Sacred Heart hospital. Anyone

Returns From Canada
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Flinn,
3233 Jacksonville highway, and
their children, Michael and An
nette, returned Saturday from
an 18-day trip to Canada.
While away, they visited
Prince George, Jasper National
park, Lake Louise and Banff.
Lady Lions
Install
Officers
Medford Lady Lions' officers
for the 1956-57 season were in
stalled at a joint ceremony with
the Medford Lions at Tally Ho
restaurant June 27.
Those installed were: Mrs.
Joseph Tomjack, president; Mrs.
Robert Urie, vice president;
Mrs. Joe Patello, secretary; Mrs.
H. M. Christoffersen, treasurer;
Mrs. Nick Gier, lion tamer. In
stalling officer Mrs. Robert
Dames was assisted by Ms. Ken
Campbell and Mrs. Herbert
Seitz.
The first board meeting of
the new year was held at the
home of the president, Mrs.
Tomjack, July 12. Committee
chairmen appointed there were:
program, Mrs. Elwood Hedberg;
membership, Mrs. Herbert Seitz;
flowers and cards, Mrs. Ken
neth Campbell; ways and means,
Mrs. Lynn Colby; historian, Mrs.
Alva Perkins; parliamentarian,
Mrs. Lee Mellish; welfare, Mrs.
Alan Jewett, telephone, Mrs.
Earle Courtney; publicity, Mrs.
Edward Ashton.
Plans were completed for the
organization's participation in
the Jacksonville Jubilee and
committees were named for a
rummage sale to be held during
September. Mrs. Kenneth Camp
bell and Mrs. Lynn Colby are in
charge of the sale.
Valley Women
Serving on League
Research Committee
Mrs. Justin A. Smith, Med
ford, and Mrs. O. A. Kellog,
Gold Hill, are members of the
state research committee of the
League of Women Voters for the
coming year.
The committee is contacting
various states using "home rule"
and alternate forms of county
government. It will evaluate
these governments as to their
economy and efficiency of oper
ation.
Mrs. Smith is also now serving
the second year of her term of
office as a member of the
league's state board of directors
in charge of domestic continuing
responsibilities.
0ve Rebekah Meets
With State President
Mrs. Roy Gibbs, state presi
dent of the Rebekah assembly,
was the guest of Olive Rebekah
Lodge 28 of Medford at a special
meeting Friday evening.
A covered dish supper was
served at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Gibbs
addressed the group on the work
of the Rebekahs.
Three candidates for member
ship were initiated into the
lodge: Mrs. Alene Lore, Mrs.
Josephine Cline, and Mrs. Joan
Keene. Rebekah pins were pre
sented by Mrs. Lee Garritt Mrs.
Ruth Black, a Rebekah member
from Boise, Idaho, was a visitor
for the evening.

a summertime outdoor luncheon
and card party at the home of
the club president, Mrs. Ray
Nordwick, 228 Ross Lane,
Wednesday.
Luncheon will be served at 12
noon followed by cards and
games.

on a small white Bible.
Her attendant, Miss Liannis
Burnette, cousin of the bride,
wore a yellow dress with white
accessories. She carried a nose
gay of white carnations with yel
low ribbons.
James Gandee, Ashland, was
best man.
A pale blue dress with white
accessories and a corsage of pink
carnations was worn by . the
bride's mother. Mrs. Graf wore
a black and white print dress
with black accessories and a cor
sage of white carnations.
Bouquets of white margue
rites, pink cluster roses and
sword ferns decorated the
church.
Mrs. Clarence Holdridge was
the soloist and Mrs. Jack Suks
dorf played the piano.
Following the wedding, a re
ception was held in the church
annex. It was decorated with
bouquets of garden flowers. Miss
April Burnette, sister of the
bride, was in charge of the gift
ble, and another sister, Mrs.
Ray Feeler, cut the wedding
cake. Mrs. Mae Lowe presided
at the punch bowl and Mrs.
Charles Tuggle poured coffee.
The couple are making their
home at Culver apartments,
Talent.
Mrs. John W. Jonei
Texas Marriage
Announced for
Louella Chavis
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Chavis,
509 Oak street, announce the
marriage of their daughter, Lou
ella, to First Lieut. John W.
Jones of Chanute, Kan. The
ceremony was performed in the
Protestant Chapel at Biggs Air
Force Base, El Paso, Texas, June
30 at 4 p.m.
For her wedding Miss Chavis
chose a white suit with navy
blue accessories. She wore an
orchid corsage.
The bride attended Medford
schools and was graduated
from the Academy of Northwest
Nazarene College, Nampa, Ida
ho. She is employed by the Pa
cific Telephone and Telegraph
company in Denver, Colo. Lieu
tenant Jones, a graduate of
Leavenworth, Kansas, High
school, entered the Air Force
in October 1953.
The couple resides in El Paso.
Eagle Point Club
Executives To
Meet August 1
An executive meeting of the
Eagle Point Garden club will be
held in place of a full club meet
ing on Aug. 1 at the home of
Mrs. A. I. Wattenburg.
No regular meeting will be
held in August. The executives
of the club will complete the
new year book at their session
Aug. 1.
The club met last at TouVelle
state park July 11 for a noon
picnic. The president, Mrs. Glenn
Clymer, reported to the mem
bers on her recent trip to On
trio, Ore., for the state convention.
Guests for the afternoon were
Mrs. Harry Dalton, Mrs. Clay
Coully, Mrs. E. Abbott, Mrs. M.
Carson and Mrs. E. Hofman of
Butte Falls.
Prizes were won by Mrs.
Augusta Perry, Mrs. Hofman
and Mrs. Mike Heckenberger.'
Nevada Rites
For Couple
Miss Vera Farley, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Farley of
Eagle Point, and Donald Force,
of Medford, were married in
Reno, Nevada, June 20 in an in
formal ceremony at St. Luke's
Lutheran church. The Rev.
George Schroeder officiated.
Attending the couple were Mr.
and Mrs. Gene Bishop of North
Highlands, Calif., brother-in-law
and sister of the bridegroom.
A supper for members of the
wedding party and family mem
bers was "held at the home of
Mrs. R. V. Reiten, aunt of Mr.
Bishop. Also present for the wed
ding were Mr. Bishop's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Bishop of
Ashland.
The bride is a graduate of
Eagle Point High school. The
bridegroom, who has lived in
Jackson county all his life, is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Force of Eagle Point. He is a
graduate of Crater High school
at Central Point.
The couple are making their
home at Grants Pass where he is
employed by the Oregon State
Highway department.
Children Honor Couple
On 25th Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. John T. Ross,
1522 Minear road, have returned
home after a visit with their
daughter, Mrs. C. E. Westphal
and family near St. Helena,
Calif. While there they attended
a surprise celebration of Mr. and
Mrs. Westphal's 25th wedding
anniversary, planned by the
Westphals' twin daughters. The
Westphals were married in Med
ford June 24, 1931.
Mr. Ross presented the couple
with a book of poems which
he had written.
After the silver wedding anni
versary celebration, the Ross
and Westphal families, joined
by the family of Mr. Westphal's
brother from Weslaco, Texas,
left for a 10-day camping trip
on Lake Tahoe.

Orchestra Classes
To Start Monday
The orchestra classes,
sored by the Medford
schools, will start again Monday,
July 16. The orchestra classes,
which have been in session ear
lier this summer, as taught by
John Drysdale. Mr. Drysdale has
been working with the summer
high school orchestra groups at
the University for the past three
weeks.

turned last week from Hawaii
Mrs. Doe met her husband in
Honolulu on his return from the
Philippine Islands where he had
been employed for the past three
months by Everett Plywood. Be
