ish school teacher Robert Fitz-
aucher was. So he becan re

ago. Fitzaucher passed on re

At Demo Conclave
Chicago (U.RJ The Demo
cratic National convention this
summer will have something no
previous presidential nominating
conclave has had an accom
panying commercial and indus
trial exposition.
A New York exposition man
agement firm, Clapp and Poliak,
Inc., is selling space in Interna
tional Amphitheatre to industrial
and commercial firms that want
to display their wares before the
Democrats and other convention-goers.
The cost, according to R. J.
Reynolds Jr. of Clapp and Pol
iak, is $10 per square foot.
Reynolds said the exposition
firm obtained permission from
the Democratic National commit
tee to stage the commercial fair,
called "American Showcase," in
a side hall in return for paying
the Democrats' rent for the en
tire amphitheatre.
He said participation in "Am
erican Showcase" involves no
contribution to the Democratic
party. He said the firm did not
plan a similar exposition at the
Republican National convention
in S a n Francisco because the
Cow Palace, where the GOP con
vention will be held, does - not
have room for such a show.
Reynolds said between 60 and
75 exhibitors are expected to buy
space in the Chicago show. He
said they will include utilities,
TV and appliance manufacturers,
candy companies, meat packing
firms, beverage companies and
'top-bracket distilleries."
"But it won't be a grog shop,"
he added hastily.
He said exhibitors will be per
mitted to dispense free samples,
but no selling will be permitted.
Unidentified Man's
Body Found in River
The Dalles (U.R) The body
of an unidentified man has been
taken from the Columbia river
near Bingen, Wash., and officers
began an investigation to deter
mine if there was foul play.
Police said the man, about 50,
apparently had a knife wound
under the right arm. The body
was unclothed and had been in
the river about 30 days. ,
The body was sighted from a
tug. Klickitat county officers
were called and recovered the
body just west of the city limits
of Bingen.

Gravediggers End
San Francisco Strike
San Francisco (U.R) Union
gravediggers have voted on a
new contract that would settle a
64-day strike-lockout and pave
the way for burial of 976 bodies.
Burial of 890 bodies in San
Francisco and 86 in neighboring
San Mateo county will begin
Thursday. It will take at least
a month to complete the burials.
In addition, the gravediggers
will have the task of cleaning up
the litter in the nine cemeteries
affected by the dispute and of
reviving the withered lawns,
shrubs and flowers.

Youth Range Camp
Bruce Boldenow, son of Mr.
and Mrs. M. C. Boldenow, 1408
Dixie lane, has been awarded
a S25 scholarship to attend the
Youth Range camp August 6-11 ;
on the big bird refuge south of
Burns.
The Livestock association and
the Young Farmer's association
in Jackson county will hold a
contest sometime between July
25 and August 1 to select two
boys' from Jackson county to be
awarded a S25 scholarship to
attend the camp.
The camp is sponsored by the :
Pacific Northwest section of the
American Society of Range Man
agement. More than 40 boys are
expected at this year's Youth
Range camp, according to Jack
Ross, farm crops specialist at
Oregan State college.
