In Kidnaping Case
Westbury, N.Y. U.R Police
have issued a nationwide alarm
asking druggists to watch the
persons trying to buy a special
vitamin required for the kid
naped Weinberger baby.
The move appeared to be a
last-ditch attempt to get fresh
clues in the kidnaping of one
month - old Peter Weinberger
from the patio of his parents'
Long Island home last July 4.
Police, apparently up against a
dead end, were awaiting the offi
cial entry of the FBI into the
case Wednesday.
The alarm was a long shot,
: since there appeared to be little
likelihood the kidnaper would
knowingly give himself away by
asking for the vitamin.
Authorities asked druggists to
question closely anyone asking
for a vitamin preparation called
Dozex B-12. The preparation was
prescribed for the Weinberger
baby before he was abducted.
Russia Charges US
With Air Violation
Washington (U.R) Russia
has charged the United ' States
with "a gross violation of the
air space of the Soviet Union by

The ambassador, speaking
through an interpreter, said the
planes in some places had in
vaded Soviet territory for 320
kilometers and "some of them

Zaroubin said the alleged vio
lations took place on July 4, 5
and 9. He said they occurred in
. the vicinity of Minsk. Pinsk,
Bresk, Kalinigrad, Baranovichi,
Vilna. and Kaunas, former capi
tal of Lithuania. All the cities
are in the Baltic area in Western
Europe.

Machinery Bought
To Enlarge Prison
Furniture Plant
Salem (U.R) Purchase of
$7500 vorth of machinery from
the state highway department
for use in the expanding prison
furniture industry has been ap
proved by the State Board of
Control.
The board said the machinery
would provide rehabilitation
work for inmates at the prison
and would also result in some
savings to the state.
Enlargement Necessary
Col. William Ryan, board sec
retary, pointed out that enlarg
ing the prison furniture opera
tion was necessary due to aban
donment of the prison flax plant
which has been losing money for
the past six years.
The highway department ac
quired the machinery when it
purchased the Superbuilt Furni
ture company plant in Portland
some time ago. Equipment which
cannot be used at the prison will
be auctioned off.
Action Postponed
Action on construction of an
emergency exit from the base
ment cafeteria of the public
service building was postponed
until bids and plans could be re
viewed by the state emergency
board which meets July 27. j
The legislature appropriated
$7500 for the job but specified
that the money must also cover
construction of a fire escape on
the Supreme Court building.
The board said low bid on the
exit was S5.950 and estimated
cost of the fire escape was $3300.
Expenditure of anything over
the appropriated amount must
be approved by the emergency
board.

Guches, case finding chairman
for the Jackson County Public
Health association, which oper
ates the clinic at Sacred Heart
hospital.
The Quality Market is one of
several businesses which have
made a regular practice of hav
ing employees x-rayed each year
as a part of their health pro
gram, Mrs. Guches pointed out.
Firms interested in group
x-rays are urged to call Mrs.
Robert Paris at 2-7159 for an
appointment.
Since the x-ray clinic was
closed last Wednesday for July
4, it will be open Wednesday,
July 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. The
clinic also will be open Thurs
day, July 12, from 2 to 5 p.m.

The world's first talking mag
azine was the brainchild of Len
Kaufman and Bob Lewin. They
formed a deal with Rainbo Rec
ords, which previously made rec
ords as part of breakfast food
cartons. Rainbo also had record
ed such oddities as the mating
call of mosquitos.
"Hear" hit the newstands last
week. Already Lewin and Kauf
man are displaying letters from
enthusiastic young readers: "real
cool" and "Absolutely the best
magazine ever printed."
"We worked a year on the
idea," Lewin explained. "We be
lieve fans don't have a chance
to evaluate people they read
about. But you can make an
evaluation from a voice. You get
a feeling of what the person is
like. The fans feel closer to
the stars when they play these
records."
Hi-Fi Brainwash y
The publishers have plans to
"brainwash" even more homes
with direct quotes from Rock,
Lane, Debbie, Eddie and the rest.

ers join, was first known as Fort
St. Anthony. Gen. Winfield
Scott visited the fort shortly
after its completion and re
named it in honor of Josiah
Snelling, who supervised its construction.
Manganese, Tin
Programs Approved
Washington (U.R.) The Sen
ate Interior Committee has ap
proved bills to continue a man
ganese ore purchase program
and to resume a tin program.
One bill calls for federal pur
chase of 30,000,000 long tons
of manganese ores or concen
trates. It would be accepted in
amounts of 6,000,000 tons- each
at depots in Wenden, Ariz.;
Deming, N.M.; Butte, Phillips-
burg, Mont.; and at depots to
be located In the Ozark-Cush-man
area and the Southern Ap
palachian area.
The other bill directs pur
chase of 10,000 long tons of tin
concentrates to be delivered at
points including Seattle, Wash.
The budget bureau had rec
ommended against the tin pur
chases on grounds only meager
deposits have been found in this
nation and its territories. An op
eration in Alaska was encour
aged for a time, it was pointed
out, but it was discontinued as
uneconomic and because stock
pile needs had been met.

'Miss Air Power
New York (U.R) Joanne Al
ford, 24, of Jacksonville, Fla.,
an aeronautical engineer for the
Glenn L. Martin company at
Baltimore. Md., has been named
"Miss Air Power of 1956" by the
Air Force Association.
Runners up and Miss Alford's
"flight crew" in the contest,
limited to unmarried women
pilots between 18 and 30, were
Jan Markstaller, 20, a student
at Oregon State College, and
Helen Daines, 19, a student at
Utah State College.
