Anniversary
Shasta daisies and lilies deco
rated the home of Mr. and Mrs.
John R. Russell, 120 Newtown
street, for a tea Sunday, June
24, honoring their silver wed
ding anniversary. More than 80
relatives and friends were
present.
Out-of-town guests included
Mr. and Mrs. Ford Kenney,
Aloha, parents of Mrs. Russell;
Mr. and Mrs. Pat J. Boyle, and
daughter, Claudine, Beaverton,
sister of Mrs. Russell; Mr. and
Mrs. Louis Balsiger, sister of
Mr. Russel, Portland: Mrs. Alice
Crellin, Plattesmouth, Nebraska,
and Mrs. Fred Leiding, Napa,
California, houseguests of the
Russell's.
Mrs. Crellin was in charge of
the guest book, Mrs. Leiding
supervised the gifts, while Miss
Boyle presided at the punch
bowl. Cofise was poured by Mrs.
Tom Saunders, Mrs. Harley D.
McMaster and Mrs. Leslie W.
Thomas.
For the tea Mrs. Russell wore
a dark blue sheath accented with
silver cummerbund and acces
sories. Home from school for their
parent's anniversary were Miss
Marilyn Russell, who is a student
at Samuel Merritt School of
Nursing, Oakland, and Miss Nan
cy Kay Russell, a student at Wil
lamette university. The former
has returned to school after, a
two weeks visit with her parents.
Reums to Spend
Summer in City
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reum
and four children have arrived
in Medford from Honolulu, Ha
waii, to ' spend the summer
weeks. Mr. Reum Is a son of Mrs.
F. H. Reum, Findley apartments.
The Reums have taken the
home- of Mr. and Mrs. Frank C.
Preston Jr., 186 White Oak dr.,
for their stay here.

Tolle-McCulloch
Ceremony Held
At Church Here
Mrs. Gertrude D. McCulloch,
Corona Del Mar, Calif., and
Harold E. Tolle of Medford
were married in a simple cere
mony held June 23 at First Meth
odist church. Dr. Raymond E.
Balcomb officiated.
Mr. and Mrs. Tolle made a
wedding trip to Corona Del Mar,
and after July 15 will be at home
here at 1389 South Stage road.
For the marriage service the
bride wore a dress of navy blue
lace over taffeta with white ac
cessories and her corsage was
of Cecile Brunner rosebuds with
a gardenia.
Attending the couple were Mr.
and Mrs. R. E. LeVander. Med
ford, long-time friends of both
the bride and bridegroom. Mrs.
LeVander wore a navy blue taf
feta dress with white accessories
and her corsage was also a gar
denia with rosebuds.
A luncheon at the LeVander
home followed the ceremony.
The bride formerly lived in
the valley, having resided in the
Wagner Creek area for many
: years. Mr. Tolle, whose parents
are Mr. and Mrs. Walter lone,
1065 Stewart avenue, is office
manager for the road department
of Jackson county.

And James Powell
Plan Summer Rites
Mr. and Mrs. Gideon Ketter
ling of Mercer, North Dakota,
have announced the engagement
of their daughter, Marliss, to
James R. Powell, son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. E. Powell, 1000 West El
eventh street, Medford.
Mr. Powell is now on active
duty rvith the U. S. Navy at San
Diego. The couple plans a late
summer wedding at the Powell
home in Medford.

Retiring Queen
Honored at Dance
Central Point Bethel 38,
Job's Daughters, honored the re
tiring queen, Miss Vicki Noel, at
a formal dinner-dance Saturday
evening, June 23 in the Pioneer
room of the Jackson hotel. Fifty
guests attended, 'Which included
bethel members and escorts;
guardian council, their husbands
and wives, and relatives of Miss
Noel.
A "Blue Moon" theme was
used for decorations and pro
gram. Centerpieces for the retir
ing queen's table and those of
guests were glittered blue moons
in a setting of Esther Reed dais
ies and blue candles.
Specialty numbers were pre
sented by Miss Pat's School of
Dance.
Guardian council members
were on the committees for pro
gram and decorations, which was
headed by Mrs. Harry Elden and
Miss Sally Elden, senior princess
elect. Gary Smith sang ''Blue Moon"
during the addendum as Miss No
el was presented the traditional
silver teaspoon from the bethel
and each girl presented her a
blue carnation.

Kenneth Chokie
Set Wedding Day
Mrs. Eva L. Baker, 517 South
Grape street, announces the en
gagement and forthcoming mar
riage of her daughter, Barbara,
to Kenneth John Chokie, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Hamil
ton. Route 2, Box 393B.
Miss Baker is a 1956 graduate
of Medford Senior High school.
Mr. ChoKie attended school in
Rock Spring, Wyo., and has
served in the United States
Army.
The wedding is set for July 29
in Sacred Heart Catholic church.

For Bride-Elect
Mrs. Edward Bunnell and Mrs.
Paul Dix complimented Mrs.
Constance Stokes Skinner at a
party Friday evening at the Bun
nell home on Portland avenue.
Members of Alpha Rho chapter,
Beta Sigma Phi, were guests.
Mrs. Skinner was presented a
shower of personal gifts.
Mrs. Skinner and Charles
Allan Sams are to be married
later this month.
Grandsons Here
W. Garland Jones and two
sons, Ronny and Blitz, arrived
yesterday from Ukiah, Calif., to
spend the July Fourth holiday
with the boys' grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Alfred S. V. Carpenter,
Topsides, Old Stage road. The
two boys arrived earlier this
summer from their home in the
Virgin islands to spend several
weeks in Ukiah and Medford.

Returns to City
Mrs. Ethel Chadwick has re
turned to her home in Medford
after spending the winter and
early spring at her apartment in
Phoenix, Ariz. Mrs. Chadwick's
daughter, Mrs. J. C. Koppen,
also lives in that city.
Later in the summer Mrs.
Chadwick plans to visit friends
in Montana and Canada.

'McLcod-Johnson Ceremony
Held at Methodist Church
An event of June 23 was the wedding of Miss' Janet Johnson
to William Curtis McLeod. The ceremony was held at First Method
ist church af two-thirty o'clock in the afternoon with Dr. Raymond
Balcomb officiating
The bride is a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Raymond M. Johnson,
325 Vancouver avenue, and the
bridegroom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. William McLeod, Coos Bay,
Ore. The newlyweds will live
in oos- Bay until September
when they will return to Oregon
State college for their senior
year.
The bride, home economics
major at OSC, designed and
made her wedding gown as a
part of her college work last
term. It was of Swiss imported
organdy with long fitted bodice
dropping to a V in front and
back and bordered with embroi
dery scallops. The organdy skirt
was embroidered with flowers
beneath to give a shadowy effect
and had a brush-length train.
Her finger-tip length veil was
held by a jewelled tiara and she
carried a crescent-shaped bou
quet of white carnations, Cecile
Brunner rosebuds and ivy cen
tered with a white orchid.
Miss Karen Johnson, maid-of-honor
for his sister, wore a princess-style
gown of cascade em
erald green crystalline with
matching picture hat and car
ried a cascade bouquet of Ester
Reed daisies and ivy. Brides
maids were Miss Mary Ann
Healy, Lanikai, Hawaii, college
roommate, Miss Lois Patterson,
Roseburg, college friend, Miss
Margaret Hildreth, Salem, and
Miss Sally Pearson, Hermiston,
Ore., both sorority sisters of the
bride. Their gowns were of Nile
green crystalline over white taf
feta, fashioned princess style,
and worn with matching picture
hats. They carried bouquets of
daisies with ivy.
Audrey and Mary Lynn Buck
ingham, cousins of the bride
groom from Coos Bay, were
flower girls. Their frocks were
of Nile green embossed organdy
and they carried baskets of
petals.
For the wedding the bride's
mother wore a navy blue silk
shantung frock with jewelled
collar and white accessories. Her
corsage was of white chrysan
themums. The bridegroom's
mother wore an ice blue crystal
line gown with jewelled bodice,
white accessories and white or
chid corsage.
Mr. Johnson gave his daugh
ter in marriage and Russell Han
sen, Coos Bay, was best man.

Mrs. Jerry Sherman was at
the organ and Miss Sally Pear
son sang.
The decorative theme for the
church was also green and white
Ivy and satin bows marked the
pew ends and wedding bells
hung in the arched entrance to
the sanctuary. Palms, ferns and
baskets of white gladiolus and
snapdragons decorated the altar.
About 150 guests attended the
reception held in the church
parlors. Mrs. William Curtis,
aunt of the bridegroom, and
Mrs. W. J. Moreland served the
wedding cake. Coffee was pour
ed by Mrs. Walter G. Garner
and Mrs. Philip G. Humphreys
and punch was served by Mrs.
Jack McLeod, aunt of the bride
groom. Mrs. Loren Soderlund
was at the gift table, Miss Marcia
Houghton took charge of the
guest book and Miss Gail Pren
tice served the bridegroom's
cake.
The silver coffee service was
loaned by Mrs. O. A. Eden.
After the reception out-of-town
guests and relatives gathered
at the home of the bride's par
ents to see the newlyweds. leave
on their wedding trip to south
ern California. For traveling the
bride wore a navy blue sheath
dress with white shantung pic
ture hat, white accessories and
white orchid corsage.

and daughters, Audrey and M,ary

The bride, who was graduated
from Medford High school be
fore attending OSC, is a member
of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.
Mr. McLeod. who was graduated
from Marshfield High school, is
majoring in civil engineering.
His fraternity is Theta Chi.
Give Dinner
Mr. and Mrs. Gain Robinson,
1018 South Oakdale avenue,
were hosts for a dinner last eve
ning. It was given at the Colony
club.

Party Observes
80th Birthday
Of Harry Luy
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Luy, 116
Newtown street, held open house
Monday in observance of Mr.
Luy's 80th birthday anniversary.
About 50 neighbors and long
time friends of Mr. Luy called
during the afternoon and eve
ning. Mrs. Luy was assisted by Mrs.
Lewis Ulrich, Mrs. Lawrence
Luy and Mrs. Lee Stone.
Among the guests was Mrs.
Fred Fick who brought with her
a clipping from a Jacksonville
paper dated 1896 which describ
ed a masquerade party given by
Jacksonville firemen and which
Mr. Luy had attended. It was re
called that the masquerade par
ties were always one of the so-'
cial highlights of the year in
early-day Jacksonville.
Mr. Luy was born in Jackson
ville and has lived there his en;
tire life. The Luys have a son,
Paul Luy, Eremerton, Wash., and
a daughter, Mrs. Lyle Penny,
who lives in southern California.
Valley Couple
To Marry Soon
1 Mr. and Mrs. Jack A. Rydberg,
10 Quince street, announce the
engagement and forthcoming
marriage of their daughter.
Phyllis Gail, to Ellis Doty, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Doty,
Jacksonville.
Miss Rydberg, a graduate of
Medford High school with the
class of 1954, is employed as a
secretary for Littrell Parts com
pany. Mr. Doty, a graduate of
Jacksonville High school in 1949
and a former student at South
ern Oregon college, is now em
ployed by Bausch and Lomb
Optical company.
The wedding is planned for
August 11.
Medford Traveler
Home From Tour
-Mrs. William H. Fluhrer, who
left Medford in March for a tour
of Europe, has returned to her
home on Lyman avenue. Mrs.
Fluhrer went first to Rome
where she was joined 'by Mr.
and Mrs. W. W. Aldrich, former
Medford residents now living in
Lanai, Hawaii.
The three motored north
thrpugh the European countries
"following spring" and particu
larly enjoyed the flower gardens.
They, were in Holland for the
tulip blossom season, and trav
eled as far north as Copenhagen,
Denmark.

of the United States Air Force.
with Mrs. Hobson and their chil
dren, Julie and Kenneth Jr., are
in Medford as guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Lyle Anderson, 2136 East
Jackson boulevard, Mrs. Hob
son's sister and brother-in-law.
They are also visiting Mrs. Hob
son's father, Benjamin B. Balis,
of this city.
General Hobson, who lived in
Ashland as a boy, has been as
signed to duty at the Fifth Air
Force headquarters, Nagoya,
Japan. The Hobsons will leave
here today and are to fly from
Travis Air Force base July 3
to Japan.
