Shortly after 9 o'clock this

Fined, Suspended
By Prexy Giles
St. Louis (U.R) Manager
Fred Hutchinson of the Si. Louis
Cardinals was fined 3150 and
suspended for three days Satur
day in connection with a dispute
with Umpire Babe Pinelli in Fri
day night's game with the Cin
cinnati Redlegs.
National League President
Warren Giles. said the penalty,
effective immediately, was for
"remarks made to Pinelli and
intentional body contact." -
The order originally called for
a four-day suspension but was
reduced to three days after
Hutchinson and General Man
ager Frank Lane made what they
called "strong protests."
Denies Bodily Contact
Hutchinson denied any bodily
contact with the umpire. He
said he was standing in front of
Pinelli and "he tried to walk
through me."
The Cards manager was
chased from the park by Pinelli
during the argument over the
umpire's decision which result
ed in a shower of paper cups
from the stands.
The incident arose in the
seventh inning when Cardinal
Outfielder Bobby Del Greco hit
a looping ball to the left field
bleacher wall which was caught
by a fan.
Hutchinson ran out to Pinelli
and claimed it should be a home
run since the fan had not leaned
over the wall to catch it. Pinelli
ruled it was a two-base hit.
