'Mad Killer'
Search Spreads
Warren, Ohio U.P) The
search for the "mad killer" of
three persons spread over a
three-state area today. Author
ities said Alfred (Buck) Wilson,
37. apparently had escaped the
tightly woven dragnet.
But many residents felt Wil
son was still around the aban
doned quaries where he last was
seen and spent another semi
sleepless night with weapons
nearby. The quarries, north of
here, are in the spot where ll
son's abandoned auto was found
Patrol cars continued to
cruise the area but the man hunt
extended to Kentucky and West
Virginia because Wilson has rel
atives there and officers felt he
may try to contact them.
Wilson, armed with a luger.
went on a shooting spree be
cause his common-law wife had
left him. He shot and killed
two of his wife's sisters, Mrs.
Hazel Botts, 32. and Mrs. Ger
aldine Brown, 30. He then fat
ally shot Nancy Worthington,
16, whom he forced into his au
to after trying to rob the girl's
companions.
Senate Debates
Defense Money
Washington (U.R) Th Sen
ate today debated a $350,000,
000,000 defense appropriation,
with the main controversy cen
tered on extra funds for the Air
Force.
Sen. Henry M. Jackson fl
Wash.) said in a speech prepar
ed for the Senate that unless an
extra $1,160,000,000 is voted for
the Air Force the United States
must reconcile itself to having
"the second best air force in
the world."
He said Russia would take
over air supremacy within three
years unless this country puts
more money into air power.
Republicans sought to hold
the extra Air Force funds to
$600,000,000. However, they
conceded their chances were vir
tually wrecked by the uproar
over Defense Secretary Charles
E. Wilson's use of the word
"phony" in discussing the Sen
ate moves to give the Air Force
more money.
Wilson said the amount the
administration originally sought
for the Air Force was adequate.
He later said reporters either
"misunderstood" or "partly"

Sen. Styles Bridges (R-N.H.),
said that prior to Wilsons re

would approve the GOP pro
posal to limit the funds to $500,
000,000. But now, he said, the
fate of the Republican proposal
is "doubtful."
Child Learning To Ride

PORTLAND U.R) Linda
Griffith, seven-year-old daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Griffith of View,
Wash., died in a local hospital
yesterday from injuries suffered
earlier when struck by a car.
Sheriff's officers in Clark
