Hold Initiatin
Women of the Moose held
initiation and election of offi
cer! at the last meeting of the
order June 13.
Initiated were Mn. Ted
Holmes, Mrs. John Wilkinson.
Mrs. Lee Couch, Mrs. Loren
Slye, Mrs. Charles Long, Mrs.
Eldred Moore and Mrs. Keagan
Townsend.
The newly elected officers are
Mrs. James Roberta, past senior
regent; Mrs. Ray Daniels, senior
regent; Mrs. Desmond Sweet,
junior regent: Mrs. Dewey Gear
in, chaplain: Mrs. John Summer
field, recorder; Mrs. Harry Tin
ley, treasurer.
A "secret pal" breakfast is
planned for Sunday, June 24.
at the home of Mrs. Mirl Morse.
169 Oak Grove road, at 7:30 a m.
Names of the secret pals will
be revealed at that time.
Those needing transportation
for the event are asked to call
Mrs. James Roberts, 3-4392; Mrs.
Morse, 3-5198 or Mrs. R. S.
Martin, 3-5243.
Next meeting of the order
will be June 27 at the Moose
hall.

To Visit Relatives
Mr. and Mrs. George (Bert)
Swartsley and daughter, Mary
Pat, of Salem, Ore., are visit
ing relatives and friends in
Medford. They are guests in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Phil
Brainerd, Valley View dr., Mr.
Swartsley's brother-in-law and
sister.
Last evening the Swartsleys
were honored at a family din
ner at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Joye Swartsley, brother
and sister-in-law, and tonight
the family will be guests of the
Brainerds for a barbecue sup
per. The visitors will leave tomorrow.

Tea for Teachers
The executive board of Jeffer
son Parent-Teacher association
recently held a tea for members
of the teaching staff. Board
members presented each of the
teachers with a pen.
Special gifts were presented
three of. the teachers who will
not be returning next year. Ron
Weatherford has accepted a
principalship in Nampa, Ida.;
Mrs. Lola Work. is leaving to
be with her family and Miss
Mary Lee Ford will be teaching
in Springfield Junior High
school next year.
Mrs. Fred Simcox, president
of the association, ' presented
Hulbert Kenneth, principal of
the school, with several articles
for use on his desk as a meas
ure of appreciation for his co
operation during the year.
Board members assisting with
the tea were Mrs. John Vaughn,
Mrs. Robert Newland, Mrs. El
vin Pesenti. Mrs. Fred Under
wood, Mrs. William Barnes, Mrs.
Ira Lawrence, Mrs. Irvin Patton,

Four Zontians
At Convention
Four members of Medford
Zonta club will leave tomorrow
for Sun Valley, Ida., to attend
the annual convention of Zonta
International. Attending will be
Miss Joe Kirtley, Mrs. Violet
Anders, Mrs. Irean Grigsby and
Mrs. Florene Bolton.
This will be the 33rd conven
tion of this international service
organization of executive women
in business and the professions.
Sessions will be June 25-28, and
more than 900 delegates and
members are expected to attend.
Thirteen countries will be repre
sented. Dr. Dorothea Radusch
Minneapolis, Minn., president of
Zonta international will give the
opening address on "Zonta Fu
tures." A special feature of the con
vention will be the first presen
tation of Zonta 's "Nations Unit
ed" meeting June 28. Representa
tives of each of the 13 Zonta
countries will present views on
"What Women Can Do to Assure
Peace in the World." Keynote
speaker will be Mrs. Eleanor
Lansing Dulles of the State De
partment. She will also speak
for a banquet on "Foreign Re
lations and You."
The international service proj
ect of Zonta is the Amelia Ear
hart graduate scholarship pro
gram. Grants of $1200 each are
given annually to qualified wom
en engineers for graduate work
in the field of aeronautics. To
date, 18 young women have used
these awards, and the 1956 win
ner will be announced during
the coming convention.
"A Woman's View of the
World of Tomorrow" will be one
of the program features. Fore
casts will concern various occu
pational fields in the next 25
years. 1
At the last meeting of the
Medford club Mrs. Jean Fish,
new president, presided for her
first meeting. Mrs. Lorraine
Evensen, who has resigned her
position as vocal music director
for Medford public schools, has
also resigned from the club. She
was honored with a shower dur
ing the luncheon-meeting, held
at the Jackson hotel.
Mrs. Evensen and her husband,
Paul, will spend part of the
summer in Minnesota with her
parents.
Cebu Swamp to Meet
Saturday Afternoon
Members of Cebu Swamp,
Military Order of the Lizard,
United Spanish War Veteran,
will meet at the home of Col.
W. H. Paine, 58 North Orange
street. Saturday, July 23, at 1
p.m. Mrs. Winifred Vail will be
hostess.
A potluck dinner will be
served at 1 p.m. Medford mem
bers are to take hot dishes, the
Grants Pass members the salads
and desserts.
Members are to take articles
to be used as prizes for the an
nual meeting of the Grand
Swamp.
Mrs. Renne Grosh and Mrs.
Hans Rammin are co-chairman.
Mrs. Mabel Nicholson states
that there will be a practice
of the stunt to be given at the
convention in Eugene, July 9

District Psychiatrist to
Have Practice in Medford
The Southern Oregon Child
Guidance clinic will be able to
increase its services within the
county with the addition of Dr.
Harry K. Danielson to the staff
as assistant to Dr. John Water
man, of tile state board of
health.
Dr. Danielson is now work
ing in the state hospital in Sa
lem. He will establish a private
practice in psychiatry in Med
ford beginning July 2.
He will serve as district psy
chiatrist for four southern Ore
gon counties, and will devote
four days of the month to Sack-
son county, three of which will
be assigned to the clinic. '
Social Worker
Miss Mary Vandenburz will
continue as full time psychia
tric social worker this year. It
is hoped that psychometric
tests, done through school facil
ities, will still be available for
use at the clinic in diagnostic
work.
Dr. Norman Sundbere of Eu
gene will be at the clinic one
day a month as clinical psychol
ogist. Dr. and Mrs. Waterman
will continue as consultants to
the Jackson county health de
partment staff.
The Child Guidance Clinic
offices will remain at 307 Lev
erette building this year.
A service of the health depart
ment, the clinic, is administered
by Dr. A. Erin Merkel, health
officer; Miss Dorothy Huskey,
health educator, and Miss Dor
othy Collard, nursing supervis

sale will begin at 10 a.m.

string in a tree on the Illinois
Wesleyan University campus.
The bird was wise enough, how
ever, to keep hooting until stu

fire department to its rescue.
