Ashland Man Held for
Disorderly Conduct
Ashland Wiley Stewart Jr.,
35, 447 B St., was jailed Satur
day on a charge of disorderly
conduct after police said he
knifed his brother-in-law. E. W.
Cameron and nicked Cameron's
wife.
Cameron suffered knife cuts
on his cheek and chest during
the fight, police said. When his
wife attempted to stop the fight
she was slightly cut. Stewart is
being held in city jail pending
further investigation.

of Williams, has completed the
track vehicle mechanic's course
at the Seventh Army Tank Train
ing Center in Germany.
Brown, a mechanic in Tank
Company of the 9th Infantry Di
vision's 47th Regiment, entered
the Army in January, 1954, after
attending Grants Pass High
school. He received basic train
ing at Fort Ord, Calif., before
going to Europe last February.

Falls, who died of a self inflicted
gun shot wound Sunday, will be
held in Conger-Morris chapel
Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Rev.
Kenneth F. Korby of St. Peter's
Lutheran church will officiate.
Committal will be in Jackson
ville cemetery.
Mr. Hueners was born Sept.
11, 1924, in Medford.
He had been working as an
electrician for Copco.
On July 1, 1950, in Medford,
he was married to Mae Jean
Davis; who survives.
He enlisted in the Navy Aug.
7. 1943, in Medford. and was
discharged on July 8, 1949, in
Boston, Mass.
Survivors, besides his wife, in
clude two sons, Bruce and David,
both at home; his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. John Hueners, Jack

Dangerous Mental
Escapees Captured

dangerous escapees from the
Wyoming state mental hospital
were captured at North Platte
Monday night without a strug
gle, but their companion is still
loose.
Police captured the two men
in a warehouse area on a tip.
They escaped Friday night with
three others from the ward for
the criminally insane at Evans
ton, Wyo.
Captured were Gordon Gal-
lington, 28-year-old psychopath
who has escaped four times and
once attempted to dynamite the
Casper, Wyo., police station, and
Donald Horst, 29, a "sexual psy
chopath." Two of the five were
captured in Wyoming Friday
night, but the fifth Jack Mater
ly, 28 remains at large.
LUNG CANCER

mour M. Farber, associate clin
ical professor of medicine at the
University of California Medical
Center here, said that while sur
gery is at present the only cure
for lung cancer, various chemi
cal agents have shown promise
in relieving symptoms and giv
ing temporary improvement. He
said a recent and valuable addi
tion to lung cancer diagnostic
procedures is examination of pa
tient' sputum for malignant
cells. Dr. Farber and others
have described as sputum-exam-
ination technique said to detect
about 90 per cent of lung ma
lignancies.

Stoddard stepped out on a 20
pound pair of stilts and walked
a sentimental mile to the rural
school he attended as a boy.
That was the way Stoddard,
who farms a 160-acre tract on
which he was born near here,
celebrated his 70th birthday.
"The walk took me 25 min
utes which isn't much compar
ed with the eight minutes it
took me to walk it as a school
boy," Stoddard said. "Still, . I
didn't know myself, before I
started, if I'd be able to maka
it."
