Non-Stop Flights
Portland (U.R) An official
of West Coast Airlines said today
his company is hopeful of early
action by the Civil Aeronautics
Board on an application to start
non-stop flights from Portland to
North Bend-Coos Bay.
Kurt Dills, manager in Port
land for the airline, said that in
its application for permission to
start the service. West Coast
brought out that the two south
ern Oregon coastal cities have
long been one of the heaviest
traffic points of any local serv
ice airline for many years.

Search for Kil
Starts Near Riot
In Chicago Theater
Chicago (U.R) The nation
wide search for the shotgun
killer of three persons set off a
near-riot in a jammed movie the
ater here.
About 3,000 persons jammed
the street outside the Granada
Theater on the North Side when
they heard that police had
trapped killer Lawrence Neu
mann inside.
Two women fainted in the
crush. The crowd got out of con
trol and 15 squads of police al
ready on the scene had to radio
for reinforcements.
The police were waiting their
chance to nab a member of the
audience who matched Neu
mann's description.
Wrong Man
But when they caught up with
him, it turned out the man was
not Neumann. A search that has
spread beyond the city limits to
include much of the nation re
sumed. Neumann, 28, walked into a
North Side jazz spot early Fri
day with a shotgun and cut down
bartender Max Epstein, 54, dice
girl Lois Gates, 27, and news
vendor John Keller, 49.
He apparently was seeking
revenge for a beating inflicted
on him by Epstein's brother, ex
prizefighter Mickey Epstein, co
owner of the Miracle Bar where
the shootings occurred. Epstein
saved his life by dropping to the
floor. The blast intended for him
caught Mrs. Gates.
Neumann, a handsome ex-con
vict, escaped the scene of the
slaughter without leaving
trace.

fragile Donna tramping through
the wilds in a pith helmet had
her press agents dreaming up
stories about perilous adven
tures. Like Honolulu
But Donna shrugged she
doesn't know what all the fuss
was about she thought Africa
was "a lot like Honolulu."
Africa is a great place for a
honeymoon," Donna declares.
"The only thing that's against
it is it's so far away. But when
the let airliners operate regular
ly, I predict it will be a terrific
tourist attraction."
Donna and her husband, pro
ducer Tony Owen, found one re
sort, Malindi, on the east coast
of Africa, that was "the most
beautiful place we've ever seen."
They weren't bothered by bugs
and the tab was only $10 a day
for room and board. The only
disadvantage was the natives
woke them up at 6 every morn
ing for tea.
Cheap Living
Nearby was a blue lagoon
and we picked out a spot for a
house," Donna went on. "My
husband was never so healthy
and happy in his life. Of course,
the way they work there it
would take forever to build a
house but it wouldn't, cost
much."
Tony and ZJonna visited Afri
ca to make a picture for their
independent company. Donna
has joined the many stars who
now beat high taxes by pro
ducing their own pictures Bill
Holden, Jeff Chandler, Robert
Mitchum, Marilyn Monroe and
many more.

Many people ask me what to
to do about hives. My impres
sion is that the little hives, espe
cially in chil
dren, are oft
en due to the
eating of some
food, perhaps
chocolate, or
some fruit
juice, or milk,
or eggs. Often
the mother
could find out

by keeping a little diary, in
which she would make note of
the unusual foods eaten before
a crop of hives appeared on the
child s skin.
In my experience, the big
hives seen on the skin of adults
are generally due to strong emo
tion, and usually to some un
happy problem. Often when I
see a woman scratching a lot of
big hives, I ask, "What can't you
make up your mind about?" and
she answers, "Could it be that?':
Then I say, "Yes, it probably is
that."
Perhaps then I find that the
woman cannot make up her
mind to divorce an unloved hus
band to marry a man she has
met and loved. I remember a
man covered from head to foot
with huge hives. They had come
out on him after he had given
up a good position with a com
pany to take one that promised
to be better in another com
pany. When he found that he
was going to get cheated out of
the position of sales' manager,
which he had been promised, he
went to pieces nervously and got
the hives.
In another case, a woman who
had expected to marry a man,
suddenly realized that he was
trying to back out. In another
case, a woman who had just
married a physician who, she
had been led to believe, was
well-to-do, found out that he was
so psychotic that he had no prac
tice. He admitted he had mar
ried her in order to live off of
her small salary as a school
teacher.. No wonder she broke
out with the big hives'
CHILDREN WHO ARE
NEVER CORRECTED
A thoughful woman writes
that recently friends came for a
visit with their children who
had been brought up according
to modern psychiatric theory.
The parents had so feared to
hurt the children's ego that they
had never disciplined them or,
perhaps, even asked them to be
have better. - As a result, per
haps, the hostess found the chil
dren most unpleasant. One lit
tle girl snatched at the refresh
ments being served to grown
ups. She seemed never to have
heard of waiting until others
were served. The two boys
rough-housed so much that they
tipped over a beautiful lamp and
smashed it. The parents thought
nothing of this. One of the boys,
aged 12, took pleasure in step
ping on the white pumps of one
of the guests, annoying, her
greatly. One of the girls spilled
milk on the beautiful carpet.
The adult guests were dis
tressed because the children
