Rock Field Trip
Attracts Many;
Club Session Set
Officera of Roxy Ann Gem
and Mineral club report that
about 100 cars carrying members
of the All-American Rock
Hounds Pow Wdw club were
In the county last week end
for a field trip. The visitors
collected petrified wood, Jasper
and dendritic (moss) agates on
a large ranch not previously
opened to collectors.
The trip was led- by Dwight
McCorkle of Eagle Point. Ben
Wood, Chehalis, Wash., is pres
ident of the Pow Wow club.
Saturday night Roxy Ann club
sponsored a program at Camp
Corral for the visitors. John
Ross showed slides of agates
and refreshments were served
About 123 attended.
Today "rock Tiounds" of the
valley will be in Roseburg to
attend the annual Southern Ore
gon Gem and Mineral exhibit.
Among those attending are Mr.
and Mrs. Leland Mentzer, Mr.
and Mrs. John Dodge and Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Crump. Roxy
Ann club has entered an ex
hibit in the show.
A meeting of Roxy Ann club
is set for Wednesday, June 13
at Redman hall. Fourth and
Apple streets. The display is to
be of cabochons and agate
Jewelry.
Scout Day Camp
To Open Monday
The Medford district Girl
Scout day camp will open its
two-week eight-day session Mon
day, June 11, at S a.m. The
camping program takes place at
the day camp site on Bear Creek,
off Barnett Road, behind the
county shops.
Camp hours are from 9 a.m.
until 2 p.m. Evergreen busses
will provide transportation, and
will leave from five schools at
8:30 a.m. each morning, return
ing to the schools around 2:30
p.m. The schools are Jefferson,
Washington, Roosevelt, Lincoln,
and Jackson. The $1.25 bus fare
for the entire eight day session
must be paid by the camper on
the first morning to the bus
driver, headquarters has an
nounced. Mrs. Lynn Hayes, Medford
day camp .director, emphasizes
that no child can be accepted
at the bus or at the camp who
has not already regiri-:red earlier
in the school registration in
May. Registrations have had to
be restricted because insuffi
cient workers volunteered to
handle a larger camp.

Swedish Visitor
Now in Portland
Central Point Miss Doris
Florin of Detlanda, Sweden, who
has been visiting in Central
Point at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Ralph Burkhart, left this
week end for Portland to visit
relatives there. She and Mrs.
Burkhart are cousins. Miss Flo
rin arrived in Central Point on
May 22 after visiting other rela
tives in Minneapolis, Minn.
Miss Florin is spending about
a year in this country studying
for missionary work in New
Guinea.
Mrs. Burkhart's mother, Mrs.
Joe Berglund, accompanied her
to Portland.

tion, to hold their final meeting
of the season at their home, Mon
day, June 11.
A potluck ' luncheon will be
served and members are asked
to take covered dish contribu
tions for the meal. All retired
teachers are invited to attend.
Those who need transportation
should meet at 11 a.m., Monday
at the Jackson hotel.

Held in Hillsboro Church
Miss Ardith M. Germeroth of
Hillsboro, a teacher in Ashland
high school the past year, and
Bruce P. Ryan of Medford, were
married June 2 in 8 o'clock
e ning rites at Hillsboro. The
ceremony was read by the Rev.
George Reule at Trinity Luth
eran church.
The bride is a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Germeroth,
Hillsboro, and the bridegroom
is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
P. Ryan, 936 Grant street, Med
ford.
The couple made a wedding
trip to Colorado and will live
at Boulder while the bridegroom.
who has been teaching the past
year at Bellview school, Ashland,
will work toward his master's
and doctor's degrees in speech.
The bride will teach commercial
subjects in a Boulder High
school.
Mr. Geremroth gave his daugh
ter in marriage. Her gown was
fashioned with a lace bodice and
taffeta cumberbund, with a lace
point overskirt. The full floor
length skirt was of pleated net.
She wore a fingertip veil held
by a headpiece of seed pearls
and orange blossoms which had
been worn by her mother. Her
bouquet was of daisies.
Miss Eunice R. Germeroth was
honor attendant for her sister,
and another sister, Mrs. Elaine
L. Potthoff, was bridesmatron.
Miss Ann M. Molek, Portland,
was bridesmaid.
The bride's attendants were
dressed in princess style In
gowns of pale blue satinized
cotton embroidered with blue
rose designs and they carried
yellow daisy bouquets.
Miss Pebble DeSart was voc
alist. During the reception held In
the church. Miss Trudy Ross-
man and Mrs. Vic Suhola pre
sided at the punch bowl and
Miss Shirley Hagen and Miss
Marilyn Butler poured coffee.
Mrs. Jack Forell had charge of
the gifts and Miss Mary Ann
Lubich assisted about the church
rooms. Mrs. Lewis Thanos and
Mrs. William Stoughton served
the cake and the Thanos' son.
Peter, and daughter, Catherine,
served the bridegroom's cake.
The mother of the bride wore
a pale blue lace dress over taf
feta with navy blue and white
accessories. Her corsage was a
pink cymbidium orchid. The
bridegroom's mother was dress
ed in cream colored lace over
satin worn with brown and beige
accessories. Her corsage was of
yellow cymbidium orchids.
Lewis Thanos, a brother-in-law
of the bridegroom, was best
man. Seating the guests were
William Stoughton of Ashland;
Ron Apodaca, Pueblo, Colo., and
Howard Wilson, Salem.
The church was decorated
with yellow and white galdiolus
with white tapers.
The bride attended Oregon
State college and the bridegroom
attended Los Angeles City col
lege and Southern Oregon college.
Shirley Boitano
Leaves for Europe
Miss Shirley Boitano, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Boit
ano, 1710 East Main street, is
on the high seas . en route to
Europe. She embarked June S
from Montreal, Canada, and is
making the trip with a com
panion. Miss Jane Tople. Both
are students at Seattle university
in Seattle, Wash.
They will dock in Ireland.
They are making the tour
through' the Catholic Youth
Travel agency and while in Italy
will have an audience with Pope
Pius XII at Vatican City.
The young women will tour
foreign countries in addition to
Canada. Their itinerary includes
England, Ireland, Holland,
France, Italy, Germany, Austria,
Spain, Switzerland, Portugal and
Holland.
They also will make a pil
grimage to Lourdes, France.
At Geneva, Italy, Miss Boitano
and Miss Tople will visit cou
sins of Miss Boitano.
Mr. ' and Mrs. Boitano drove
them to Vancouver, B. C, ac
companied by Miss Boitano's
fiance, Eugene Gambee of Port
land. Their wedding is to be an
event of next September. The
Boitanos vacationed for about
10 days before returning to Med
ford. 1

Mr. and Mrs. Z. N. Agee, 518
South Oakdale avenue, arrived
home the end of the week from
Eugene, where they visited their
granddaughter, Miss Marcia
Young, a student at the Univer
sity of Oregon. She is a daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Dougall
Young, formerly of Medford.
The family now lives at Santa
Barbara, Calif., and Miss Young
returned to her home by plane.

In South Carolina

Powell and C. W. Powell Jr., re
turned to Central Point this
week from Greensville, S.C.
Both were graduated from Bob
Jones university on May 30. At
tending the graduation were
their parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.
W. Powell and Jim Gleason,
fiance of Miss Powell. They vis
ited Yellowstone National park
on the return trip.

Nile Presidents
To Be Honored;

A luncheon honoring presi
dents of the Nile clubs will pre
cede the stated meeting of
Zuleima temple, daughters of
the Nile, on Saturday, June 16,
at Grants Pass Masonic temple.
Luncheon will be served by 'the
temple dancers at 12 noon and
the business session will open
at 1 o'clock.

ald Rice, princess Tirzah, made
the trip.

For Commencement
Mr. and Mrs. Percy Bearden,
Lozier lane, are in Eugene today
to attend commencement exer
cises at Uniiersity of Oregon.
Their daughter, Miss Joyce Bear
den, who has been a student of
sociology and education there,
is a member of the graduating
class.
Miss Bearden is a member of
Alpha Phi sorority, and is a past
president of her chapter; she was
Moonlight girl at the campus
during her sophomore year and
participated in many university
activities.
The family will return here
together and next week on Wed
nesday Mrs. Bearden, Miss Bear
den and the Beardens' grandson,
Johnnie Skyrman, will leave to
visit relatives in Claremont,
Chino and La Mesa, Calif.

Mrs. Curtis Nesheim and

here last Monday to Join Mr.
Nesheim at their new home at
state forestry headquarters on
Table Rock rd.
Mr. Nesheim took over several
months ago as district warden
for the department, moving
here from Forest Grove. Mrs.
Nesheim and her daughter re
mained there until the end of
school.

18. The club will meet June 18

Scheel Family
Holds Reunion
For' the first time in 18 years
the Scheel family met for a
reunion June 1 and 2 at the
family home in Central Point.
Attending were the eight child
ren of Mrs. C. H. Scheel and the
late Mr. Scheel. They moved
with the family from Wisconsin
to Medford in 1927. Six of the
children are Medford high school
graduates..
Mr. Scheel died in November,
1953.
Thirty-three perspns attended
including 12 grandchildren and
13 great-grandchildren. The
group picnicked, boated and
swam for diversions on Friday
and on Saturday evening they
met for a banquet at Henry's
dining room.
The children and the husbands
